We hope that these findings will increase awareness of antipsychotic drug-induced dysregulations in glucose homeostasis alongside ongoing metabolic monitoring and potential treatment.

This is the largest systematic review to date examining disruptions in glycemic control associated with #antipsychotic drugs. We show that that antipsychotic drug treatment significantly disrupts glucose homeostasis independent of exposure time, dose, diagnosis, and weight gain.

Out now: our preprint with Zach Freyberg, Jiying Ning and Jill Glausier on in situ cryoET of diverse brain tissues (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...), featuring a novel approach for preparing lamellae and the use of the CCP-EM framework for subtomogram averaging.

With this new toolbox, we can now start to study neurons and glia and how they interact in their own environments under healthy and disease conditions from the tissue to the synapse to the molecules that constitute the contacts. Looking forward to these exciting new horizons of cryo-ET in brain!

In postmortem human brain, we showed that the defining features of synaptic nanoarchitecture were conserved across species.

In a mouse model of #HuntingtonsDisease, we discovered altered synaptic vesicle and mitochondrial structure. In macaque monkey brain, we visualized the 3D architecture of a tripartite synapse. We then spatially mapped astrocyte-neuron contacts, identifying tethering complexes!

We developed SISTM, seamless in situ trimming and milling, to reliably create sufficiently thin samples for imaging brain tissue under near-native conditions via cryo-electron tomography. With #CCP-EM we also generated a new fiducial approach to identify synaptic components and their directionality.
