Man this is my first assembly I’ve not attended since I joined as a resident many years ago. Can’t wait to see all the posts and live vicariously through them!

Congrats to my HPM buddies who found out they passed their boards today! Those of us who took it & are under the ABFM have to wait another 3 days on 1/10 to find out. Why? I don’t know — maybe “they” feel those who trained in family med rather than IM need MORE anxiety. Do other non IM docs wait 2?

What kinds of things bring you meaning in your work?
• How does your institution let you know you're valued?
Do those actions align with what's important to you?
• How do you let others know that they're valued/appreciated?
• I feel most like myself when...
• proud of myself when...
• exhausted when...
• not set up for success when....
• What do you feel like is within your control when it comes to your wellness?

Mindful self-compassion. Also how do you let others know that they are valued/appreciated?

Committed Action
• How we show up
• Humanizing our needs
• Grief and memorialization
• Communication preferences
• Goal setting: What kinds of things bring you meaning in your work?
• Strategically speaking up
• Re: time, conflicts with stated values

No one ALWAYS lives within full scope of all of their values. What matters is trying to correct and align.

Values & Committed Action
Informed by Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
What Values Are
• Values are constructs & activities that give our life meaning
• Values are process-based
• Values are unique to each person
• We can take values-based action in any situation, any time
What Value Aren't
• Values are not goals
• Values are not achievable or something we accomplish
• Values are not always stable
#hapc24

Values are personal and are Not goals. They are your compass to help move you in your desired direction.

Dialectical behavioral therapy with both and is not uncommon to Palli as we hold both hope and worry.

Acceptance does ndoes not mean acquiescence or liking. We just have to make space for possibility of change.

Wellness health programs by workplaces do NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Shift self care to an inner process.

Different ways of introducing yourself

Change your introductions- first you are a team member and then your discipline.

Thank you, Rakia Reynolds for a great opening key note.

First, Know Thyself.
Remember that colors are culture/regional specific - Pink is nuanced.
Short stories are the best.
Your wellbeing and mental health is paramount. And if it seems like a complaint you need to adjust your audience.

Color psychology: Yellow is joy and happiness which the world needs more of. Remember that pauses mean “Hey, Pay attention!” When you can exert energy, people will remember your story. There is an alchemy to storytelling. you need someone to verify and validate your story to help you SHINE

If a woman uses emoji in her work email she is taken LESS SERIOUSLY, but if a man uses it he’s considered relatable.

Give a why create some dopamine to hook em, give some oxytocin to make some connection, and leave them with a call to action. You have to KNOW your WHY.

#hapc24 opening Keynote observe don’t absorb others stories. Don’t lose yourself in others stories and don’t wear their stories. Great reminder on how to maintain wellness while doing hard, meaningful work.
