My GGF saw service here so I was delighted to visit and walk some of The Bluff last year. It’s well worth a visit. Some very good information boards too.
In this episode, we explore the history of The Bluff, near Ypres. We look at the bitter fighting of February–March 1916, when British and German forces battled for control of the high ground overlooking Ypres, and walk the battlefield visiting the battlefield cemeteries.

The Spectator published this attack on me & colleagues just as the High Court is considering Sussex’s request for review of the Office for Students fine. It accuses us of ‘repressing’ our students. The magazine ignored my request for to reply. Please disseminate.

The Battle of Verdun was this man's idea. His thoughts were to cause maximum casulties to the French who would desperately defend the city, whilst minimising the German losses. It was not to work out that way.
110 years ago, today, began the longest battle of the Great War: Verdun.
It would rage until December, by which time it would claim c.750,000 casualties.
