The 2022 watershed. Apparently some AI models are not being trained on research generated after 2022 because of the risk that it has been polluted by AI. So I was told, anyway.

The possibilities are endless (but I mustn’t spend the rest of my afternoon going down that rabbit hole)!

Probably an honorary doctorate from Dennis Prager University. I’m also thinking a lot of AI “history.”

The Speed of Darkness, Muriel Rukeyser

When I wrote of the women in their dances and wildness,
it was a mask,
on their mountain, god-hunting, singing, in orgy,
it was a mask; when I wrote of the god,
fragmented, exiled from himself, his life, the love gone
down with song,
it was myself, split open The Speed of Darkness, Muriel Rukeyser

Black and white photo, Eiffel Tower in the background, monuments on the left. In the center a single figure is leaping, umbrella in hand. On the right a man and woman are embracing, each holding an umbrella. Everyone and everything is reflected on the wet pavement—except the leaping figure.

Umbrella Jump (Elliott Erwitt, 1989, Paris, France)

I was thinking about that statement "we are going meter intelligence just like water and energy"....and that's why nothing should be a commodity. We shouldn't be metering water, we should be celebrating, sharing, and stewarding it.

Our country is being driven over the cliff by pubescent men whose only life skill is bullying.

Billowing stormy clouds with a Goethe quote: "I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that create the climate."

The temperature outside is 78 degrees and today I saw the first forsythia and cherry blossom buds. By tomorrow noon it's supposed be down in the 30s with snow showers...time for a German weather quote!

Yes! It’s also fascinating to think about when I translate. To some extent that happens automatically—the syntax in German (my second language) changes in different eras and then the trick is to shift my brain to English that conveys that.

Alfred Steglitz's Black and white photograph of New York at night in 1915. It's a combination of light, shadow, and different shades of darkness. Foreground: the edge of a roof top, behind which is a clothesline with laundry hung out and low apartment buildings with lighted windows. In the background are several taller buildings, windows brightly lit.

Love this photo. Alfred Steglitz, 1915, "From the Back Window."

What a wonderful little memoir of your life together (& the photos!!). It is indeed an encouraging read about the everyday joy that animals (& blogs about them!!) bring to our lives. Thanks for sharing this, GP.

And let’s not forget Nurul Amin Shah Alam, the refugee who was abandoned to freeze to death in Buffalo a few weeks ago, those who have died in detention camps, and those who have died after deportation. There have to be consequences for this.
