I read the OP as if there was no justification for cars to be able to go over 80mph then it should be prevented. But they also didn’t propose anyway that it could be prevented.

I’m not… I’m just saying the way that gearing works in an ICE gearbox means that mechanically limiting the top speed to 80mph might be undesirable. Obviously in software there are ways but not always nice.

I was thinking more about getting there, and relative efficiency while at 80mph. Sure doing 150mph is going use more fuel, but maintaining motorway speed (below 80) with an engine that doesn’t sound like it’s about to blow itself apart is probably not a bad thing.

An electric maybe, an ICE car there are mechanical reasons with power and gearing etc.
