Blast from the past! The original Blambot studio was a cramped little spare bedroom. These pics are from about 2002(?), right about the time that I quit my day job to do comics full time. Here I am, 23 years younger, about 50 pounds heavier, and with a head of hair!

A bit of good news—over the weekend, more parts arrived for my upcoming Stratocaster build: 2024 Fender American Professional II body in glorious gloss black, and hand-made Fralin pickups!! Blues Special neck and middle, Pure PAF bridge humbucker.

Yeah, I don't actually crack my knuckles anymore. It just sounded badass.

Well...you'll be happy to find out that DC was crazy enough to give us LOBO--coming at you in 2026. Should be a wild ride.

Agreed -- when you see that happen, it's usually because the creative team actually gets along really well on a personal level and WANTS to work together again and again. They mesh really well, and elevate each other's work. Its a great feeling, lemme tell ya.

This is really in reference to mainstream comics creators.

Comics writers and artists — please request your favorite colorists and letterers when working on a new project with a publisher. Can’t hurt to ask. (And if you don’t really care who letters/colors your work…that’s disappointing on a lot of levels.)

I like to do quick mock-ups of ideas for guitar builds--here's the idea that I'm actually finding parts for right now. I find black and gold classy as fuck.

This morning's warm-up "sketch". I was looking through some newspapers from the early 1900s, and found these wonderful little hand drawn maps of California. I broke out some disposable tech pens and tried to capture the feeling of the lettering. Those upturned "e"s intrigued me. Is this a keeper?

So what do I do when there's a lull of incoming work from publishers? Well, I work on fonts mostly. I also start on design projects that were scheduled further out. There's always SOMETHING I can work on. (#DontKeepAllYourEggsinOneBasket)

Thanks! I think most people don't care about my guitar obsession. They just put up with it for the font/comics updates. (However, I am working on a custom build right now. A black American Strat w/ gold hardware, a roasted neck, and hand-made Fralin pickups with a zebra humbucker in the bridge.)

Freelance comics work before a holiday is always really unpredictable. It's either a 4-alarm fire and batshit crazy, or it's dead quiet and nothing's really coming in to be worked on. And you never really know until a few days before. Looks like pre-turkey day = dead quiet this year.
