I'm not buying it. Call me cynical, but I just don't buy all this. I think it was the simple fact that he was shedding Dem support at a brisk pace and knew that he would probably not get past the primary.

I read thru it, I also looked at some of the Reddit posts and would agree that it aligns with his persona. There are some obvious conflicts with his past views and where he's at today. My takeaway is that you see an evolution in his views once you plow thru all the nonsense.

I have not read the Reddit posts yet, but earlier I saw a post stating that reading the posts in complete context changed their POV on Platner. IDK, could be rationalization, just curious to see how these topics are playing out at the individual level.

I hope Mills wins. I truly do, but this entire situation represents why young people are so cynical about politics. I've been politically active since 1980 when I turned 18, Joe Lieberman convinced me to vote for a Republican once in my life, but I'm feeling the cynicism myself regarding the Dems.

Because there are no real consequences for their actions. They feel entitled to do as they please. Boot him off the plane, fine him, make it hurt a bit and they will stop. Too many apologists for this type of behavior.

I'm hoping we can get another candidate to run. Someone who could get the enthusiasm and blue collar cred of Platner. I know you think Mills can beat Collins, and you might be right, but I'm not convinced. Mills has huge negatives in the 2nd CD and is not a motivator. I fear many will sit it out.

I worry about the enthusiasm gap. Mills has strong negatives in the 2nd CD, Platner is generating interest and enthusiasm. Some negatives will stick. My fear is that if Mills wins the primary (a strong likelihood), young people will sit on their hands in the general (I'm so angry at the DSCC).

Agreed. If Mills wins the primary i predict the few young people we have in maine will sit out the general election.

This is one of those things that we hear constantly from the right. Apparently, civics isn't being taught in 6th grade.

I want the candidate who can truly take on Collins. She's a formidable candidate but I also think she's at her weakest point right now. Her brand is tanking.

It seems the trump era has changed the calculus somewhat tho I suspect the pattern you mentioned still holds. The 2nd CD is the enigma (where I live).
