There are many organisations that support owner-trained assistance dogs. While these tend not to be ADUK-accredited, this is not a legal requirement for assistance dogs to be recognised under UK law.

Landlords and housing providers cannot deny disabled tenants assistance dogs, even if a 'no pets' policy exists. Assistance dogs are not considered pets, and extra fees cannot be applied. The harsh reality is that landlords and estate agents rarely care about the law.

Legally, assistance dogs are not required to wear a harness or uniform. Service providers cannot demand proof of training or ID, as no official register exists in the UK. However, many businesses are not familiar with the law and still refuse access.
