I had a more hostile viewing experience with this movie than I did watching Beau is Afraid. This movie really makes my head spin to recount and I didn't even get into every detail like the white supremacist antagonists or the on-screen SA.

It's especially interesting because there are some black power revolutionaries to draw from and ground a multifaceted character like Perfidia with. Many have pointed out the resemblance between her and Assata Shakur. Here's both of them side by side btw. Movie loved reusing that still...

It makes the constant monologues you're seeing these white men give about "black girls" read in a far less tasteful way.
Also bold choice to make the black leftists distinctly ineffective in organizing despite all the real world American history we have of that not being the case.

I'm really glad people saw Perfidia as a complex morally gray lead.
But I sure don't respect the decision to write her out of the story past its first 20 minutes just to elevate the conflict between the two other white guys the film actually wanted to focus on and their biracial kid.

One Battle After Another was one of the worst films I've ever sat through and that ~3 hour runtime really did not work in its favor
