If you’ve used Digitakt it’s so easy to sample and assign. The OT method is quite strange in comparison

I think that’s what makes people struggle sometimes is that some of the buttons have two different functions depending if you’re in record mode or not. Sometimes you’re wondering where the fuck that menu has gone to

It’s pretty straightforward once you get into it. Just have to use parts/slices/scenes etc for variation

I’ve been writing a live set for a gig later in the year and doing it only on the Octatrack. Time moves at a different speed when you use that machine.

I really miss Transform Multiply from the Emu sampler but they take up space I don’t have. Elektron have made sampling far too easy tho

Ah Ken Downie was someone I’d have loved to meet. His contributions to Black Dog were the meaningful ones to me. The offshoots and current grift are unlistenable to me. A sad loss

I have a lot more fx machines than I do sends on my desk. Could be interesting to have a chain of fx machines, much like guitarists do with pedals. That or just a load of noise

It’s not quite as configurable as it claims to be but for the price you can grab one for it’s worth it.

The Digitech Quad is a bit “eh” to program but when you suss it out you can get some real dreamy washy stuff out of it. The compressor is kinda useless and no distortions to speak of but built in lfos for certain parameters is kinda fun to play with

It’s handy to have the different variations, triplet etc so you can just dial in the number. I used to have this RAK Digital Delay that you could only do by ear, and it had this super 3d sound. Wish I still had that. Have never even found one for sale.

For some reason I like the programming on these units. It’s quite simple. Just a lot of button taps! The multi tap delay is really great, just have to get a delay calculator off google

It also has an app that connects by Bluetooth that makes editing it very easy

I also have a liking for 90’s effects machine. I have the SE-70 and got a Sony HR-MP5 recently (which has to be switched on and off a couple of times to work properly). I did buy this thing recently tho for less than £40 and it’s really good

I’m tortured by that ‘music’ and the way they dance to it. Let’s just all agree it’s horrible and move on

I don’t use it very often but if you turn off quantisation it’s pretty good for layering up noise stuff with mismatched rhythms as the onboard effects and automation can go very deep.
