DNA Evidence Exposed: How a Criminal Defense Lawyer Beat an Impossible Case
YouTube video by The Iron Gavel DNA Evidence Exposed: How a Criminal Defense Lawyer Beat an Impossible Case

Excellent if a bit lengthy discussion between two trial attorneys (barristers) about DNA evidence. Also about choice of plea or trial. "Louisiana wouldn't do that, its too fair". Discusses difference in procedure Louisiana v New Jersey

Private jets don't pay fuel tax. Now I don't either. You pay fuel duty. Why don’t billionaires? This week, we launched WeWingAnyCar.com to help you qualify for the same tax breaks that private jets get. Because tax loopholes shouldn’t just be for…

This video is brilliant: buff.ly/1zyTWmM

Seems a total slam dunk that owners of private jets should pay fuel duties. Doesn't it?

The answer is annoying.

California city tried to stamp out 10-year-old’s beehive project. Saving the bees was a lesson in love Before he goes out for lacrosse games, it's tradition that he has a spoonful of honey. Also, perhaps not coincidentally given what happened later, he gets a kick out of seeing tiny insects work togeth...

Interesting story. In parts of the world Bee populations are in decline (e.g. the US) and yet California's agricultural economy really needs them for pollination. What's wrong with these townies? I forgot, food just appears in the supermarket ☺️

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.

The Kindertransport’s complex legacy

What staggers me is how many people speak proudly of the Kinder Transport.

No one ever stops to ask why their parents didn't accompany them. Why we allowed children to be separated from parents who we left to die.

A cruelty inflicted in large part due to UK xenophobia & anti-semitism

Tommy Robinson found not guilty of terror offence for failing to give police access to his phone at Channel Tunnel Police had demanded access to his iPhone under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act

No fan of this guy but this was an achievement. There are people in prison for failing to open their phone.
Lets hope they get resolved soon

YouTube video by Barry University "A Civil Action" Attorney Jan Schlichtmann at Barry School of Law, April 2013

A favorite movie of mine is "A Civil Action". In part because it is set in Boston MA when I lived nearby. One scene shows a child dying on a bridge with people passing by... It was about Jan Schlichtmann. YouTube just found this video where he talks (not john trav)

No inquiry into 1974 IRA Birmingham pub bombings Security minister Dan Jarvis says existing processes can effectively investigate the case.

This is bad news. It is time for the truth to emerge from these terrible times. IMHO only a Statutory Public Inquiry can get to all the information required to understand what went on

The day after, after all the haranguing, he eventually but reluctantly appeared to accept the Plea (and the second attorney).
There was a lot of "off the record" discussion, I would like to listen in on.

30.10.2025 09:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

He also made a good point about his attorney, saying that he was not doing what he wanted him to do. Can I hear you say "they all say that"? He said the attorney was not there when the events being considered occurred, what did he have to say about it?

30.10.2025 09:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

he could be in civilian clothes at his trial (penned in for the day after). You could hear his "attorney" suggest to the judge that they ought to review this with someone in the jail hierarchy. One small victory for all of them he appeared in civilian clothes the next day.

30.10.2025 09:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This was by his brother but those clothes had been "lost". Embarrassing for the judge as other defendants had been criticised for not dressing for court and yet it appears the Jail had interfered. The county jail is not part of this district court judges jurisdiction but he was promised that

30.10.2025 09:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The judge really does not want you to do that and there was quite an effort to persuade him not to. Was that legal advice? This chap was at a hearing in a jumpsuit and handcuffs (i.e. he was in county jail). Of course it was all streamed.
He made a point that civilian clothes had been delivered

There is another interesting case in Texas. There you are allowed to be a Pro Se defendant but it seems to come with caveats - you have to more or less know what an attorney does!
This defendant wanted to be rid of his second attorney, that is rare enough. This was causing quite a commotion.

The Utah case is Tyler Robinson, remember innocent until proven guilty. I expect there will be a lot of discussion about this in the coming weeks

30.10.2025 09:01 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

and possibly shackles or at least handcuffs. Is that fair? I think not. At a case in Utah, following an assassination the judge approved civilian clothes art trial. What about hearings? I believe the judge tried to block TV and denied the defendant in person appearance. But is that fair?

30.10.2025 08:38 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

What happens at hearings, where no jurors are present, is that if you are in Jail you just appear in your jumpsuit. Times change, since Covid a number of courts stream not only the trials but also the hearings before. Now there's a clash, potential jurors could see you in your jumpsuit! ...

A couple of interesting US legal cases, one being quite famous the other not so much. The US has a proper Constitution and part of that is your right to a fair trial (6th amendment). But what does that mean exactly? One established point is that must appear in civilian clothes at your trial ...

First ever compensation scheme launched for postmasters affected by Capture IT scandal The Capture Redress Scheme will provide payments of up to Β£300,000, and more in "exceptional" cases, to former postmasters who suffered financial losses.

The "Capture" system was the predecessor to the "Horizon" system. It may have had bugs as well. The legal aspects were down to the Royal Mail legal department, although partly split off to the Post Office. Good news something is happening
