Do yall think this attack on DEI (especially in academia) is going to result in universities firing black and brown professors?
Realizing that you’re playing by a new set of rules as a black professor after becoming a professor is tough because you stumble a few times learning these new rules. 😪
In part 6 of getting a job in academia I talk about how I found out one of my letter writers didn’t actually support me. Choosing who writes your letters of recommendation or support is highly important. This is how I choose mine.
I fear government funding is going to be impossible to receive as the next four years unfold, which leaves private funding to be the only way to support research but with high level expectations at R1 institutions I wonder how things will shift in academia amongst this chaos!
No one warned me that when I started my own lab that I’d be spending my own money cause it’s just easier and cheaper to buy certain things from the store than from any of the scientific companies 😵💫
I’m not sure why I can’t seem to relax. I always feel like I need to be productive. I just sat here, planned/outlined three pubs for this semester, 5 projects and 3 potential collaborations. 🤦🏾♂️ my brain won’t stop
So, on my whiteboard in my office I wrote out my goals for this next semester and everything I need to do to achieve those goals! It’s a reminder everyday to keep pushing!
It’s been one crazy year and I’m glad yall were with me on this journey! Here’s to the next one I’m sure it’ll be an adventure! Happy New Year!! 🎆 #happynewyear #scientistswholift

Oh this is very interesting. I like it! Social media especially platforms like these should be considered when thinking about the impact of our research
One thing students are guaranteed to do is find creative ways to lose points. It’s actually quite impressive 😂 #teaching
As mentors, we won't have all the answers to our mentees' questions, and that's perfectly fine. Therefore, we must commit time to building a network of fellow mentors for continuous support and growth. We all need mentors, and a willingness to continue learning is essential. #Mentoring
Something I’ve been meaning to put out there is a YouTube series on my experience on the academic job market. While giving yall some tips and tricks and some advice I’ve picked up along the way if you’re going on the market soon and how to have success on the job market #academia #stem
Coming back from Thanksgiving break makes me want to do nothing, but I guess someone has to administer these finals 😂🤷🏾♂️ #academia #science
