I've never really done a thread before, but I wanted to document my first attempt at painting a model on what seems to be relatively more friendly of a platform then others.

A Matchbox Volkswagen Beetle. The frame has been separated from the rest of the body, and the whole model repainted yellow. Its an amatuer job with some unsmooth spots in places, but (in the authors opinion) generally well done for a first attempt.

With a amatuer paint job done, all that's left now is to put a clear coat on, put it back together, and then wrap it and give it as a gift.

I think the biggest lesson learned is to spray paint next time as to not leave brush marks.

The car was left untouched due to life suddenly becoming life. Having tried insect repellent, butane, and wd-40, I soaked it in Vinegar to take the paint off before conceding that I'd have to buy paint stripper from town.

It did wonders, and I was able to get a first coat on too

An upside down Matchbox Volkswagen Beetle frame. It is mostly bare metal with white paint in the crevices still.

Worrying about time, I put the car in a jar of acetone "overnight" as opposed to just rubbing acetone on it to see if there would be any effect on the paint.

"Overnight" proceeded to become 4 days, and when I took it out of the jar it had barely changed.

A Matchbox Volkswagen Beetle, the body separated from the other parts. It is mostly bare metal with white paint on corners and in crevices.

Despite trying acetone, it had no real effect on the white, so sandpaper was the slow method of doing it at that point. It was mostly effective but some spots and crevices were being stubborn.

A Matchbox Volkswagen Beetle. The metal frame has been separated from the body, the green paint stripped off, and the white slowly being taken off. Bare frame can be seen on the left side and on spots of the hood.

Acetone with a Q-Tip managed to take the green paint off with no problem, but had very little effect on the white paint. I kept sanding and made a little bit of progress, working on it as well as other side projects.
