Gotta admit, I was bamboozled by the first half when the search and rescue of the girls went smoothly and then the second half completely changed trajectory while still keeping it coherent. Solid performance by Gene Hackman, too.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000) - 8.5/10
If I saw this back in my anime/emo phase this would've gone harder, but it still stands as a great animated feature, a beautiful gothic love story paired with some of the most gorgeous animated sequences and framing, thanks to Yoshitaka Amano's style.

Also interestingly enough I never watched that film.
Belladonna of Sadness (1973) - 7.5/10
Hard to talk and judge this film without addressing how brutal and violent it is towards its main character, and even if the intentions behind it might be questionable the end result is compelling, the animation is mesmerizing and it's a one of a kind movie.
Before Sunrise (1995) - 6.5/10
Didn't love it as much as I wanted to, but I didn't mind what I was watching: both Hawke and Delpy are great, the dialogue is genuinely realistic and important for the relationship. Maybe I'm not a fan of romantic movies.
I thought about Baloo's ass a bit too much

Past Lives (2023) - 7/10
A very nice, really well shot and acted romantic drama. My biggest issue with it is that I felt like it was too superficial, there's definitely tender and deep moments here and there, but I wasn't fully engrossed in the characters relationships.
Weapons (2025) - 7.5/10
Really fun movie! I definitely was expecting something crazier, or the story to be "meatier", but the end result is still compelling: the direction is great, the editing is tight, the performances are great, and Aunt Gladys is just a really entertaining character.
The Spirit of the Beehive (1973)
Hard to rate such an intrinsic and deeply spiritual film, but its influence on Guillermo Del Toro's filmography, especially with Pan's Labyrinth, and its duality with 1931's Frankenstein are commendable. Very pretty to look at, and the child performances are great.
