Photo is of blinds with shadows from the light coming through another window's blinds. The light and shadow have a geometric crosshatch pattern with jagged saw blade shadows of the blind's rope.
Note: this is not a black & white photo. You can see the blind's slats are not white.

Blinds are the backdrop for light and shadow play.

I call this photo “The Kiss”. A pair of 20 foot high rocks with one leaning in towards the other. The rocks appear to be just barely touching, as if they are exchanging a tender moment, and perhaps a sweet kiss.

Thank you for bringing us this quiet, rusty stream. SO nice that Bluesky has an abundance of beautiful places brought to us in photographs. This scene is calming - I kept the photo open for a long time (a minute?) just viewing.

Backlit abstract fused glass, 4" x 4". Stripes of three cool colors - opaque navy blue, translucent pale blue and translucent teal blue - serve as a background. Upon this background are powders, blobs and lines of glass in mainly warm colors - red, orange, yellow. The curved piece is back lit by the sun, accentuating the contrasting colors and foreground shapes.

Close-up photo shows a rock covered in near-florescent green Leprose lichen. The rock is actually a large boulder at the Chiricahua National Park, Arizona.
Lichen is not a species of plant or anything else. It is a combination of fungus and algae (or cyanobacteria) growing in a symbiotic relationship, meaning they benefit each other. The fungus anchors the lichen to the rock and the algae has chlorophyll to make sugars that the fungus uses as food.
Lichen breaks down the stone into soil. It also absorbs pollutants and fixes Nitrogen in the soil.

Some lichen.

Photo of a Sobralia Chrysostoma orchid beside a trail in the Arenal Volcano National Park rainforest, Cost Rica. The orchid petals are predominantly white with a hint of pink, and yellow inside the flower. The orchid is dripping wet in the misty rainforest.

Chiracahua’s National Park is known for its crazy rock towers. This is a photo of the "Organ Pipe" rock formation as you drive into the west side of Chiracahua’s National Park. For an appreciation of just how big these are, note the size of the scrub oak at the base. I would guess about 200 feet tall.

Imposing sandstone formation overhanging the trail in West Oak Creek Canyon near Sedona, Arizona. Some sandstone, like the rocks pictured here, contain iron in the form of hematite. The reddish color is due to the iron rusting over the eons.

A fallen log with wild swirling patterns in the wood grain. This is not driftwood. It was lying on the trail to a quiet stream near the "Dells" by Prescott, Arizona.

This sign "No Washing of Flowers in Washroom" was posted above a water fountain outside the airport on the Caribbean island of Dominica. It was not obvious as to who would wash flowers here. Yes, "Brake For Snakes" is a valid warning on a road near Tucson, Arizona. A yellow caution sign displaying a Coatimundi (Mexican Raccoon) in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Typical colorful street in Guanajuato, Mexico. The street is made of bricks arranged in patterns. The lower portion of the building is made of stones with deep red mortar. The rest of the house front is another shade of red. Each door is green and the doorframes are yellow. A lot of color!

Angled, closeup photo of my latest fused glass piece shows concentric bands of bright colors and some linear elements.
I painted fusible "bubble paint" on clear glass, then covered with another piece of glass on top so that the paint is sandwiched between layers of clear glass. When fired at medium heat (~1400° F) the paint produces bubbles! Note the lacy structure to some of the color bands where I applied a thicker layer of bubble paint and too many bubbles were created.

Avenida Cero (Avenue Zero) in the heart of downtown San Jose, Costa Rica is a busy pedestrian corridor. I found it to be a great place for people watching. For this photo I leaned against a shuttered storefront. I pretended to be talking on my phone so I could grab a few candid shots.

Pedestrian-only streets like this make for great people watching. (See alt text for the full story.)

Titled "Warping of the space-time continuum." Photo shows a dense evergreen forest covering a steep mountain canyon. The camera points at the sun and the lens imperfections added what appear to be rays radiating from the sun. The "rays" bend in the bottom right corner. Einstein's theories predicted that mass could bend light and warp the space-time continuum. Thus the humorous title.

This palm-sized piece of rock had a chip broken off, revealing layers of brown, gray and white quartz crystals under the rough surface.
Is there a geologist in the house who could explain how this sort of rock is formed?
