A "short" tutorial from @theartsherpa ended up taking several days to finish. I think around 16 hrs on this one. Nice loose painterly background. Super detailed sea turtle. Glad to call this one done. On the next turtle, I will not paint dark flippers and then add light streaks. Took me a full 10 hour day to paint out my crappy first attempt, then redraw the lines with chalk and then repaint with 4 different colors of lines. The last painting only took about 3 hrs for flippers. Hoping the next 2 sea turtles are shorter.

I have been exploring different art styles as I have gained confidence in my painting skills. This piece was my original design when The Art Sherpa explored the abstract styles of Piet Mondrian in Acrylic Abstract April in 2023. I didn't particularly enjoy the composition in the tutorial, so I went off and thought about the primary color phase of Mondrian. I combined Mondrian's primary color geometric shapes with flowers drawn with a neurographic geometric technique. I was happy with the composition, but still wasn't thrilled with the primary colors. So I changed it today. Here is the original from 2023

Where I left off in 2023.

I put this aside over a year ago after I ran out of enthusiasm. I'm very happy with Monday night's progress. It all started with a tutorial "Dia de Muertos" from Michelle the Painter from Berkshire Paint and Sip on Patreon in Oct 2023. I reversed the face, changed eye and hair color, replaced big hair and big roses with a lacy veil, and am going my own way with the face paint. I have a couple of techniques to attempt before I can complete the veil. I can't decide whether to dip netting in paint and press it to the painting, or to use the netting as a stencil - placing it on the painting and painting over the top of it. The former will give me netting lines and leave the background unchanged. The latter will paint over the background, leaving the netting to take color from the existing background. I expect lots of practice sheets before I get it right, lol.

From 2023, a Michelle The Painter from Berkshire Paint and Sip tutorial "Dia de Muertos."

I went rogue right from the start and am now way off the beaten path, forging ahead on my own.

The original photo reference had a deep gray background. I was inspired to start with an orange-y background, which evolved to red and charcoal. In the wake of the devastation from the Altadena and Palisades fires, I chose to paint a message of hope.

Spent most of the day in short spurts, hating the green bits so veryvery. Ready to tackle the white flowers.

And here I stop. 2:35 AM, and I need to let the paint dry. White flowers are mostly not white, so I am starting with a nice cool gray.

Last tutorial finished today. final proofing starts tomorrow. Then I need to figure out the self-publishing stuff. Currently at 68 pages with 32 patterns.

Need to switch to a smaller brush to blend the background between the flowers.

Background applied, may need to come back later and add one more layer.
