Four partially aligned with normative journalistic roles: 1️⃣ Information; 2️⃣ Interpretation; 3️⃣ Accountability; and 4️⃣ Activism.

On my way to Cardiff for FoJ and extra excited as I get to share that our new paper with @sandrabanjac.bsky.social and Folker Hanusch has just been published in @digitaljournalism.bsky.social!

Our study explored audience expectations of journalists, revealing seven dimensions:

10.09.2025 08:25 — 👍 1    🔁 1    💬 1    📌 0

3️⃣ Strong emotions are reinforced through highly rewarding interactions with other community members, both online and offline, which deepen their sense of belonging and purpose and drive political mobilization and participation.

2️⃣ These identities evoke strong emotions, from love for fellow supporters to fannish attachment to leaders and anger or fear toward out-groups.

1️⃣ Supporters imagine themselves as part of “the people,” a community associated with overwhelmingly positive traits connected to identities such as the working class, the nation, and a perceived common-sense majority.

The findings show that:
