Very loaded month, as I have two short stories coming out from @lightspeedmagazine.com @nightmare-magazine.com that could not be more different. Space opera about lost cultural history vs horror about existing

New story out! “Dad went out to Get the Milk” in @LightspeedMag is a fantasy piece about the costs of being an absent yet ‘providing’ parent, while also dealing with monsters from other worlds. Tune in if that’s your thing:

I have a story out in Lightspeed this month that’s about…wanting your parent to leave you alone after they finish fighting monsters, so you can play on your Nintendo?
Don’t ask me too many questions

The Revised Version
Issue five: short fiction by Osahon Ize-Iyamu
Story day! What if Jack from Jack and Jill was used for rice + chicken? Or Mary’s little lamb was used for efo riro? “The Revised Version” is all about cooking nursery rhymes, but also the weight of family responsibility. Read here: theorangebee.substack.com/p/the-revise...

Story day! For Failed Architecture, “All the World’s a Prison” is science fiction about the horrors of Lagos housing, but worse. What makes you eligible to possess a space? What if it’s taken from you? Read here: failedarchitecture.com/all-the-worl...

SPOILERS but I think there’s such an interesting parallel re: Remmick in Sinners and the Peoples Temple aka ‘Jonestown’ irl. Charismatic leader promising Black people that freedom can only exist in the confines of death.
Where are the essays on this or do I need to open laptop?

There's Never Time to Be — Sans. PRESS
In this speculative story by Osahon Ize-Iyamu, a son toils at the garden of his mother in an endless attempt to expunge his guilt and grief.
Ever since Ogbe's mother became the soil in his garden, he's been pretty reclusive. He only focuses on tending to her. Weeding, watering, killing pests. An eternal penance.
Heartwrenching metaphorical fantasy by @osahon4545.bsky.social
