I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

Hey everybody. Bad news first.  - In late July I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer. The cancer is widespread.   - Six days ago I had colostomy surgery at St. Paul Regions. This went smoothly and I’m resting at home.  - In 2-4 weeks, I will begin chemotherapy. Beyond that is a long fight, and I don’t know what it looks like. But I know I can fight.  - The good news is I have Jocelyn, my kids, my family, and so many friends in my corner.   - The good news is I have incredible colleagues stepping up to support me at work and at home.  - The good news is you, yes, YOU, get a free reminder to just go ahead and schedule a colonoscopy if anything’s feeling off. There’s no reason to wait till you’re 45 or 50 years old. I’m turning 42 this month; throw those guidelines out the window. - Because health care in America runs on GoFundMe, I have one in the works to help cover costs related to future treatments, transportation, and childcare needs.
