$7M to several Ohio food banks feels like providing a bandage suitable for addressing a paper cut on a finger to stem the blood flow from an amputated limbโ€”woefully insufficient (and yet so typical of a state government focused on lining its pockets at the expense of its population: First Energy ๐Ÿ‘€).

31.10.2025 02:14 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And do SNAP users know where food banks near them are?

Are the food banks within short walking distance or on bus routes?

Most food banks canโ€™t cater to those with food allergiesโ€”with SNAP they could choose what was safe but with random food bank offerings will more suffer allergen exposures?

31.10.2025 02:09 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

So Ohio is giving $7M to food banksโ€ฆ are they going to help the stores impacted by lost business?

Are they supplying the extra personnel at the food banks to distribute to more people?

Many area food banks are only open 1-4 times a month or by appointment only (unlike stores).

โฌ†๏ธ And how will food banks โ€œpick up the slack when they are already struggling to cope with high demands, especially amid reports of grocery store prices increasing. โ€˜They're supposed to help with emergencies, they're not supposed to constantly step up when the federal government refuses to actโ€™โ€

โฌ†๏ธโ€œSmaller convenience stores, which make up the majority of grocery shops that accept SNAP credits, are also likely to feel the pinch, as Plata-Nino notes: โ€˜They operate on such a small margin that if 50% of your client base doesn't show up for the week, it's going to hit their own margin rates.โ€™โ€

SAFETY ADVISORY: No Ring for ICE this Halloween

Fight for the Future warns neighbors to turn off cameras

October 29, 2025 โ€” This Halloween, leading digital rights group Fight for the Future is issuing an urgent safety advisory for Amazon Ring camera doorbells. In order to keep neighbors and communities safe, they must be turned off.

The advisory reads:

To preserve human rights and community safety, all people in the United States are advised to turn off and cover their Amazon Ring cameras this Halloween to avoid complicity with ICE operations and the deportation of immigrant families who are trick-or-treating.

Earlier this month, Amazon Ring announced a partnership with the notorious surveillance tech company Flock. This corporation was was recently exposed for secretly sharing camera data with Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) and with out-of-state law enforcement investigating people who travel for abortion care. As surveillance devices like Ring doorbells are increasingly being weaponized against marginalized groups, Fight for the Future is raising awareness ahead of Friday so everyone can take action to protect the privacy and safety of all trick-or-treating children and families.
