Coincidence corner: JCB and Reform UK

From the new Private Eye, out now.

Dear Shabana,
I notice today that you referred to me in your speech on immigration at the IPPR think tank.
You said: “A party leader should not be on the beaches of France encouraging people to
make a perilous crossing on small boats.”
I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised especially after the hateful Labour campaign in Gorton
and Denton, but this is just the latest in a string of lies peddled by a discredited Government
who intentionally fan the flames of racism and division.
When I went to Calais, I was not there to encourage people to travel to the UK. I was there
to see at first hand the suffering your Government and successive Governments have done
in demonising migrants in a pathetic bid to pander to the base instincts of Reform and the
flawed strategy of Morgan McSweeney.
As you will know, if you even bothered to research my visit instead of taking Reform talking
points, I was there to witness the brutality of families living in tents in freezing temperatures. I
filled water tanks and picked up litter.
What that visit did do is confirm my belief that if we are to smash the boat gangs and stop
the boats, we need to offer safer and managed routes for migrants to come to this country.
Showing compassion as a politician is not a crime. In fact, we need to see much more of it.
It reminded me of a young MP who in October 2015 spent three days in Lesbos helping
migrants fleeing war-torn Syria. She posted videos on X, talked about handing out water and
croissants to refugees and food parcels.
When she returned to the UK, she wrote a very moving piece in the New Statesman. She
said “we have to work with our European partners and create new, safe, and legal routes for
refugees to get to Europe. We cannot abandon them to their fate, left as prey for smugglers
whilst risking death on the seas.”
She said “maybe we can make ourselves feel better by saying no-one is making them get on
the boats. And again, the Home Secretary is not entirely wrong when …

Dear Shabana,

Let's clear some things up around migration and remember we're talking about people's lives.

I think he needs to look up the term hypocrisy. Manchester United currently have 19 foreign players in their first team. Four first team players are the sons of immigrants to their home countries. Three players moved to Europe as young children.

Failure to introduce a wealth tax
Failure to renationalise water
Failure to build social housing
Failure to challenge Trump rhetoric

Maybe if Starmer did something like a wealth tax or renationalising water or building social housing then people might start supporting him?

Maybe people want him to go because of:
Removal of trial by jury
Failure to tax billionaires
Failure to start building social housing.
The plan to reintroduce PFI
The strive for growth at the cost of the environment
The failure to challenge Trump

Comparing these clowns to the Atlee government shows you have no understanding of the difference. Attlee nationalised Railways and Mines and set up the NHS. This lot can't even guarantee clean water.

It's noticeable that the people who are now angriest with Keir Starmer's Labour government are those who voted for it. And they are right to be. This has been his primary achievement.
So where on earth does he think Labour voters will come from, next time round?

Keir Starmer urges European leaders to reform human rights laws to tackle illegal migration It comes as leaders meet in Strasbourg to discuss a potential shake-up of the European Convention on Human Rights.

In the 1930s we didn’t have the ECHR and the far right still took power and there is zero connection between the ECHR and the rise of the right today. What did encourage the rise of the far right was appeasement which is what Starmer is proposing. This moron is the Paul von Hindenburg of our time.

I would be an idiot if what I said was not true, but today Starmer had failed to defend the Labour Mayor of London from Trump's criticisms.

As opposed to having a leader who can't even be bothered to remove his tongue from Trump's arse long enough to support his own London Mayor

And how much investment in infrastructure that will benefit those children in the long-term could have been funded by a wealth tax, rather than a stealth tax on working people.

A serious Chancellor who wanted to make the country better would have introduced a wealth tax and not be in a fanatical "drive for growth" that has a complete disregard for the environment.

I think the key word is try. But you stick with a party that is going to destroy the countryside in the drive for growth.
