kinda crazy how every single โ€œjust give people enough money to afford some basic stuffโ€ experiments yield the exact same positive results that everyone benefits from every time, huh

Anyway, back to toiling

Pritzker is everything Newsom wants you to believe Newsom is, including both actually brave and seemingly in possession of an actually beating human heart.

I liked when James Baxter used to do occasional guest spots on animated TV shows. I assume studios had a bat signal for him, except instead of a static bat it was a horse running in perspective towards the camera while the camera rotated around it

โ€œ10/7 was bad and everything that followed in aftermath was worseโ€ is a perfectly moral and popular position. itโ€™s more or less the American consensus on 9/11.

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

Someone asked "why dont artists post tutorials as much anymore? It's always behind a paywall"

I think it is because every single time I have seen a tutorial go viral people end up SCREAMING at the artist "how DARE you tell me how to draw?!"

io9: Your portrayal of Indigenous and transgender charactersโ€”like the Lnu tribe and Cordeliaโ€”stands out in a media landscape where such representation is still rare outside of series like Golden Kamuy, Skip and Loafer, and Paradise Kiss, where theyโ€™re often mishandled. What impact do you hope these characters have on expanding the narrative terrain? How do you see your storytelling challenging the ethnocentric lens that dominates much of mainstream media when it comes to that representation?

Yukimura: I did have written characters in [Vinland Saga] from a marginalized ethnic group [and] who are LGBTQ featured here. I actually wanted to portray a character with a disability in the story, too. However, because of the setting, I really couldnโ€™t find the right place to incorporate such a character into the story. One thing I really donโ€™t understand, though, is why do people attack such folks? Is it because theyโ€™re different? Why do they just focus on bad things about these groups and generalize them? I truly donโ€™t understand why people do such things. I plainly feel sad when it comes to the way people treat each other.

To me, itโ€™s quite normal for people to have uniqueness. Itโ€™s almost needless to say that we all individually have a uniqueness that might be considered different than what is the majority. For example, I grew up in an era where higher education was considered to be the most important thing in society in Japan. You almost had no paths in life outside of that structure. I actually do live outside of that structure, and Iโ€™m living perfectly fine. I really want to say that uniqueness is okay. I donโ€™t understand why people are making those judgments to say, โ€œThis is okay, but this is not okay.โ€

I havenโ€™t really thought about what this type of storytelling or character would have an impact on society at all. Iโ€™m just writing, drawing, and portraying society as I see it and what I think is normal from my eyes in the manga. If people donโ€™t agree with that version of what I think is a normal society, then oh well. (Laughs) Thatโ€™s too bad. Those people donโ€™t have to read my manga.

Also, Makoto Yukimura said trans rights.

Makoto Yukimura was worried that Vinland Saga's farming arc and "I have no enemies" moment was a gamble that readers wouldn't like. I told him about the J. Cole meme from the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap beef. This is how he reacted.

also just feels important to point out that after a whole wave of trans users were suspended for pointing out JK Rowlingโ€™s transphobia, now apparently we are suspending Jewish users for pointing out Christian Zionistsโ€™ antisemitism

On another platform, @debaoki.bsky.social wrote a magnificent rant about how many of these books are killed by Japan's uncompromising image rights restrictions.

Comics are a visual medium. To properly write books discussing comics, you NEED visuals. But for Japanese publishers, the answer is no.
