Did you know that the bees that need saving are NOT honeybees?

Honeybees are the dairy cows of bees. People brought them over from Europe to make us honey.

The problem with honeybees, esp in resource-limited ecosystems (like hey! cities!) is that they compete with our native bees for food.

Watching a TV show and a senior academic has bookshelves in their office with plenty of space for new books. I’m used to suspending disbelief but this is ridiculous.

I heard stories of people who've fed crows, and been given gifts in return. It sounded charming, so I began doing that.

Then, one night, there was a rapping on my bedroom window. I stumbled up and opened.

A crow flew in and spoke: "They're coming for you. You must flee."

I only just made it out.

A circular infographic chart categorizing cheeses by type of milk and texture. At the center, four sections are labeled cow, sheep, goat, and buffalo, radiating outward into concentric rings for textures: soft, semi-soft, semi-hard, and hard. Each cheese name is placed within its corresponding segment, with illustrated wedges of cheese circling the outer edge. Cow’s milk occupies the largest portion, featuring well-known varieties like Brie, Camembert, Taleggio, Havarti, Gouda, Cheddar, and Parmesan. Sheep’s milk includes cheeses such as Roquefort, Manchego, and Pecorino Romano. Goat’s milk features options like ChΓ¨vre, Crottin de Chavignol, and Humboldt Fog. Buffalo is represented by Mozzarella di Bufala Campana and Buffalo Blue. The cheeses are organized visually so that softer varieties appear closer to the center and harder ones toward the edge. Small colored drawings show each cheese’s texture, rind, and tone, from creamy whites and soft rounds to golden blocks, crumbly wedges, and blue-veined interiors. The background is a deep charcoal gray, making the warm oranges, yellows, and creams of the cheeses stand out clearly.

Sigh, deciding *not* to search for information, I will now spend the weekend coming back to this "fish doorbell" phrase in my head. Wish me luck!

The President of the United States has joined forces with his Israeli counterpart, a genocidal butcher, to start a war with Iranβ€”because he doesn’t want people to find out that he raped children.

Hubble Space Telescope orbit height versus the solar sunspot number. Periods of higher activity are associated with faster drops in height. (not as up to date as the plot from @planet4589.bsky.social) We're also looking at shorter periods, for effects of flares and geomagnetic storms

On this day: On 24th February 1582 Pope Gregory announced the papal bull 'Inter gravissimas', which introduced the Gregorian calendar (since year is 365.2425 days long, calendar was out by 10 days so they had to remove those days).
