Laxdæla saga is a great romance (the drama, the love triangle, the murder) but what Njáll and Bergþóra have in Brennu-Njáls saga makes for a better love story

I think my favorite on the list is "frændi" (kinsman), cognate with English "friend", both from the porto-Germanic verb "*frijōną" which means "to love".

It's just a very human thing to write about, even though these sagas are so old.

Looking a list of 246 most frequent words in the Íslendingasögur, most are function words like pronouns.

But looking at what verbs, nouns, and adjectives appear most frequently can tell you what people thought was important to write about.
