it should not take me almost an hour to take public transportation from one end of the city to another when the city is less than 15km from top to bottom

the state of public transportation in the western world is abysmal, there is no reason that it should take me 2+ hours to go less than 50km away. meanwhile places that do it right have high speed intercity rails going like 300+ kmh...
