It could make a difference if it makes it easier to prosecute businesses hiring ppl illegally. Current system is worst of both worlds as burdensome to those following the rules while easy to feign innocence as long as there are a couple of photocopies in a drawer somewhere

One of the most interesting gender gaps in ed data is the % achieving a good level of development at early years.
In 2024:
Girls: 75%
Boys: 61%
No one thinks that's because we're better at teaching little girls right? Girls are just naturally better at the stuff we care about at that age

Line graph showing the performance of all pupils and disadvantaged pupils at A level between 2018 and 2024
Unlike at KS2, nationally performance at A level is up slightly on 2019.
The disadvantage gap is depressingly consistent though.

Comparison of performance at A level of local authority run school and academies between 2018 and 2024
Once again comparing maintained schools to acads/free schs reveals little difference although the academies attainment at A level is slightly higher.
There are now around 5 times as many academies and free schools (1538) as LA run (311) in the post 16 tables.

Congratulations to Girls' Learning Trust who knock COLA off the top spot for A level average points score. They are selective though so you'd expect them to do well.

Map showing local authorities in England colour coded by the proportion of children reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths. London boroughs are mostly green, the rest of the country red.
The regional contrast is far starker than the structures one though: London continues to out perform the rest of England

Comparison of local authority schools vs academies and free schools in the percentage achieving expected standard in reading, writing and maths between 2018 and 2024
Comparison of LA schools vs academies/free schools has something for everyone. LA schools continue to do slightly better at getting kids to expected standard in reading, writing and maths but the gap is narrowing.
I think this trend will continue and academies will overtake LA schools next year.
