“Caveat stacking” is an excellent, dismayingly useful term.

Inoculating against predictable bad-faith responses can easily turn into a way of pre-legitimizing those bad-faith responses.

Also all the harassment from this person and others started because I spoke out about Liz Hoover. No one posts about her any longer (despite the fact she still has a job/tenure/makes $185k a year/still infiltrates Native spaces) but somehow my identity became the target. Painful af.

It’s always been wild to me there isn’t an easy way to do this from a safety perspective.

It’s a pain, but basically: go to a post you have archived, @ mention their username in a comment, press post (they won’t be notified), and it will say “this user cannot be tagged” but their name will highlight in blue as a link. Follow the link and you should be able to block from there.

I just figured out how to block someone on IG who had blocked me first (meaning they could just unblock me anytime and view my profile). This person has been harassing me for 3+ years. They post about me nearly every single day. The posts probably won’t stop but I feel an immense sense of relief.

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last.

Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

As soon as my life gets settled a bit I’ll be back to writing, and looking forward to diving back into dissecting Native representations in media and popular culture (certainly plenty to talk about! 😩). I also plan to write about Higher Ed in the context of the current moment as someone who…left.

to recap:
— Trump was *for* the TikTok ban
— which the GOP Congress passed
— and the GOP Supreme Court upheld
— and even though Biden said he wouldn't enforce the ban, TikTok shut down anyway
— so that Trump could "save" it
— and the media fell for it
we really do live in the dumbest fucking country

Ok I’m gonna spell the plot out. It has nothing to do with TikTok as a platform and everything to do with major corporations ignoring a national security law passed by Congress and upheld by SCOTUS because a man who isn’t even president yet told them to.

That’s the plot!!!

I know that people are going to flock right back to that app, but even though I think they’re all wrong for doing it, Congress passed a law and the Supreme Court agreed unanimously and now a guy who *isn’t even president* is putting it back online and this is very bad.

Any iteration of TT that “comes back”, I ain’t interested in. It is now GONE gone, for me.

Normally I’d go to tiktok to see how everyone else was feeling about this.

TikTok time of death: approximately 10:33pm EST.

First comments stopped loading, then profile pictures went gray, then likes stopped registering, until somehow I was left only with the first TikTok I watched this morning: Isabel Klee’s foster dog Cezar gently biting an Xmas ornament still on the tree. I let it loop. I couldn’t even heart it.

Any study I would design is most likely low/no risk and probably exempt, but I still would need an exemption letter for a lot of journals.

A more existential question: Do I still want to publish in academic journals? I don’t even know. But I think I want the *option* for now. 😂

Question for independent scholars: how do you obtain IRB approval?

Are you paying for private IRBs? Always having a co-PI at a university? Figuring out ways to have a university affiliation for IRB access?

Just curious as I navigate this new space.

Must-Reads and Some Ways to Support Native People This Weekend "Colonialism has been destroying worlds for hundreds of years."

This week's must-read roundup has arrived early (and was still tough to narrow down). Here are some articles you won't want to miss, along with ways to support Native people this weekend and my final thoughts for the week.

Around this time every year, I share a list of ways to support Native people. From supporting Indigenous people seeking abortion care to defending Native voting rights and keeping Native families together, here are some causes worth supporting. 🧵

Beach beading today. Been working on this beaded cedar gorget with embedded LED lights. ✨

I loved this book so much I wrote about two of these stories in my own book being released next year. Beautifully written and curated anthology about Palestinian futures.

For folks wondering, I ended up going with the free github instructions in this thread--a very calm german programmer made a little youtube video to walk you through and I followed the instructions no problem. Took the program about 3 hrs to delete 27k tweets.
