On December 6th, 1989, the killer intentionally massacred 14 women at L’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal due to a deep seated fear of feminism. He wanted to kill many more.
There has been much written about this but I recommend listening to the podcast “my favourite murder”, episode 442.

OTD in 1989, we lost 14 prospective women engineers to an act of misogynistic terror at Montreal's École Polytechnique.
May their memory be a revolution.

A couple days after December 6, 1989, a friend told me that he’d thought about it, and he believed the massacre of 14 women because of their gender wasn’t misogyny. In that instant, at age 21, I became militantly feminist and haven’t looked back.
