You could do either! 😊 if I mix some in with resin first, I will use a pipette to add it into the mold. Just a tiny amount on a toothpick, too- the 1st time I used pigment paste I added way too much & the dice didn't even come close to curing lol 🙃 (I had to freeze it to get all the gunk off)

If you're looking to do a Petri method, I can also recommend a tool I use to disperse your sinker ink that creates really nicely-defined 'sqiggles' lol 😆 (Fineline Applicator in 18 gauge "fine tip", bottle is white & blue)
I have a few tips! 😃 1) try a black pigment paste instead of just a black alcohol ink (pigment pastes are much heavier & will sink) 2) add colorant to your white sinker ink to change the colour from just white. You won't be able to get Black this way, but You can get a very heavy Grey this way
