One of the best parts of being an MP is getting to hear from our younger generation. I attended Hayes School in Torbay where I met with Mark, the headteacher there, and students on the school council.

We discussed supporting mental health in schools as well as cars speeding on Hayes Road.

As a Christian myself I look forward to Ash Wednesday today, the first day of Lent. When I went to the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford their All Saints Church felt particularly atmospheric to start this period of reflection and abstinence.

Free 'Kellogg's Breakfast' is available for families in any Morrisons Cafe during the school holidays. There is no requirement to sign up and access is universal.

Kellogg's and Morrisons have launched this campaign to highlight the pressures faced by parents when schools close.

The Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund has secured funding until March 2028. This will give more security to the many families relying on the scheme to support adopted children.

I called for security for this funding in May last year, so it is great to see that this has been recognised

Kinship carers are family or friends who step up to care for a child when their parents aren't able to, such as during an unexpected crisis.

I joined the #ValueOurLove campaign in Westminster yesteday which is calling for financial, practical and emotional support for kinship carers.

The RSPCA are urging the Government to publish clear timelines to deliver their Animal Welfare Strategy.

We need to act soon to change the fact that 10 million laying hens in the UK per year are kept in ‘enriched cages’ and 6 million piglets are born to mothers confined in farrowing crates.

Progress on reducing poverty has flatlined since 2005.

I very much enjoyed attending Peta’s Research Modernisation Deal event in Westminster today and learning about their strategy for phasing out the use of animals and increasing the uptake of advanced technologies that perform better than animal-based methods.

Too many young people are currently locked out of the housing market due to unaffordable rents, and insecure living arrangements. YMCA is campaigning to deliver 10,000 affordable and supported homes for young people. It was great to join their launch in Parliament last week.

The average funeral costs over £4,000. Many families struggle to meet this cost at short notice. This week is #FuneralPovertyWeek — raising awareness and calling for fairer systems and better support. #NoDebtToSayGoodbye

The brand new Torbay Radio has just been established! It was great to meet with Julian Sharp from South Devon Radio 102 CIC, to talk about the newly formed Torbay Radio. I enjoyed speaking with him about his approach to local radio and ideas for collaborations to benefit the #Torbay community.

Drug testing has confirmed that SPICE in Torbay is contaminated with Cocaine and has already caused two individuals to go into cardiac arrests. I’m urging everyone to stay safe and follow the guidelines from the Council below.

FIA’s Buddies is a newly established community project in #Torbay with the purpose of supporting #children experiencing the effects of #Down's Syndrome and their siblings. I was delighted to attend their launch this Saturday and contribute towards their aim of approaching the #Charity commission.

I know that charter fishers in Torbay are concerned about the new bag limits for catch (including Pollock) so I spoke this week in a parliamentary debate on fishing to suggest that the Government should assess the impacts of bag limits on the recreational fishing industry.

The Government must stand up to #Putin and #Trump. I spoke at the FCDO Statement on Arctic Security to emphasise that both Putin and Trump understand only strength and to ask the Foreign Secretary when will the "Coalition of the Willing" become a "Coalition of the Capable."

In Devon there are nearly £300 million in cuts to our NHS and yet the government justifies tax rises by claiming they will spend this money on public services. In Parliament this week I challenged the government on this issue and brought attention to the lack of funding for our #NHS in Devon.
