There's thought to be a sensitive/critical window for speech and language development but it does depend on degree of HL etc.

The push from charities and patient groups for new routine screening is well intentioned but Wilson and Jungner's criteria are still.the best guide, and especially in neonates. The picture can change when better tests are developed .

I wish the downsides of screening were better understood. It can cause harm because tests are imperfect
