We are a backyard homestead, growing flowers, fruit, and a wide variety of veggies (zone 6a in Michigan). We love growing veggies year-round. Gardening is our passion!

We're almost there! Spring Equinox is just around the corner! My gardens agree--migratory birds are coming back, crocus and daffodils are poking through the soil, the soil is thawing out, buds are starting to swell. And there's more sunshine! Lots to get excited about!

Yesterday, I saw some Pickwick crocus poking up through the soil. Here's what they looked like last year in one of our gardens.

Hellebores are a spring pillar of joy in my gardens. Do you have a favorite you like to grow?

Reflections petunias are growing strong under lights. They are also sitting on a heat mat. This is my first year for growing petunias from seed and things are looking wonderful. I have 4 varieties in various stages in our Germination Station.

I agree! I bought a Harlow Carr because it's scent was so lovely. I planted it near Vanessa Bell. But Harlow got a terrible fungus. I thought he was a goner! I moved him to a different bed and cared for him just like my other roses. And he recovered completely.

Over the winter, I bring in many of my geraniums. Some are scented geraniums, but most are zonal geraniums. This summer, I bought a salmon variety that bloomed for me during these cold winter months. It brings me a taste of summer to have blooming geraniums in the house.

I am new to Bluesky and am looking to connect with gardeners--for flowers but also for growing vegetables, soft fruit, and herbs. My page is called Picket Fence Gardens.

The first herbs and veggies I'll be starting from seed will be broccoli, bell peppers, and basil. I start them mid-March (gardening in Michigan). The last week of March, I start my tomatoes. Other crops I start indoors are tomatoes, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, and pak choy.

Are you growing sweet peas this year? This year, I'm trying out this new variety called Blue Shift. As it matures, it changes color, going from pink to mauve to blue and turquoise. I can't wait to see the transformation!

I can't wait to see mine here in Michigan. I planted Spot On pulmonaria last year and just loved their pink and blue flowers!

I'm waiting with you! I planted some daffodils and crocus in the lawn this year and am eager to see if they will pop up. We have over 1,000 daffodils in our one-acre homestead. I love adding more each year. πŸ˜€

For my birthday this year, my hubby and son made me a potting bench. I love how my husband added 3 heart brackets for the top shelf. That made it super special!

Here are the Frizzle-Sizzle pansies in the making. We were infested with fungus gnats last year, so I now sterilize our seed starter and potting soil, plus mulch with vermiculite and dust with cinnamon. It's all working great!
