Are you intimidated by gyms, studios or exercise, in general? This is a real thing called "Gym anxiety". Also known as "gymtimidation," refers to feelings of fear, discomfort, or nervousness experienced when participating in physical activity in a public setting.

These seem to be more related to being guilty of an offense than the feeling of guilt.

Thank you for inspiring a deeper look.

Related terms:
"pāpa": Another Sanskrit word that can be used to convey the concept of sin or evil, which could also be associated with guilt.

"kilbiαΉ£a": A less common term also meaning "fault," "offense," could also be used for"guilt".

Maybe he meant the feeling of guilt not the offense of guilt?!? I’ll ask him more about it.

In Sanskrit, the word for "guilt" could be "aparādha" (ΰ€…ΰ€ͺΰ€°ΰ€Ύΰ€§), but literally translates to "offense" or "crime.".

The teacher who shared this with me is highly respected. He has studied with six different lineages, taught yoga and meditation as a professor for the University of Mysore and as a representative of the Indian government in Russia.

Is that Hindi or Sanskrit? My translator is saying that is the hindi word for "guilty".

We are understanding ourselves better. The more light, literally, the more enlightened we become. This is also very much aligned with living in the present and with clarity (PYS 1:1 and 1:2).

Guilt is about the past. If we are now aware that the thought or behavior is not serving the highest and best good, it is time to move on with new awareness. We are growing. We are learning.

Guilt can also be a distraction from truly changing and transforming those thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Guilt is, essentially, being attached to past thoughts, feelings or behaviors that do not serve the highest and best good. If you have already taken accountability and are endeavoring to do better, then guilt is a waste of life energy, resources, and vitality.

Becoming aware of something that is no longer serving us, is different than attaching negativity to it (guilt). The fact that we are aware of it is a huge and positive step forward, so why the need for guilt? If guilt is causing you pain or suffering, is there some sort of action that needs...

I will always remember when my teacher Jayakumar shared with me, β€œThere is no word for guilt in the Sanskrit language.”
Wow…I wondered why that was...

My understanding now is that guilt does not serve us. Awareness does.

Not sure...but I think there is no algorithm here. We have to do that work ourselves. But I found you, so YAY!
