Solidarity with our colleagues in Glasgow who are striking over having their skills fairly recognised and remunerated. Employers must listen and value their NHS staff fairly.

Letter to Dame Carrie McEwan and Charlie Massey (GMC) from Dr Tom Dolphin (BMA chair), on BMA letterhead paper outlining the findings on the Leng review, discuss next steps with Government and offer an opportunity for GMC to acknowledge mistakes.
Regulation must not blur the lines between doctors and non-doctors.
We’ve written to the GMC following the Leng review 👇
We've also been granted permission to appeal our judicial review case against the GMC. The court says our appeal raises important issues for public safety.

Some choice quotes in the judgement, however... "The guidance therefore imposes a duty on the person to explain their current role [...] In the case of an associate, this may include explaining that they are non-medically qualified members of a multidisciplinary team working under supervision."

Disappointing outcome, but time to look at next steps - but raising these important issues regarding clarity of terminology and practice is still the right choice. Patients deserve clarity in knowing who they are treated by, and GMC continue to blur the lines.

Physician and Anaesthesia Associate professionals requesting ionising radiation imaging investigations | The Royal College of Radiologists
A statement on whether PAs and AAs should undertake training to refer patients for imaging investigations.
Interesting event from the BMA last night. Worrying reports of PAs in England already acting as non-medical referrers in contravention of RCR guidance.
We need to continue to hold the line in our workplaces for the sake of patient safety. NMRs and employers need to follow due process. #BMA #medicine

Powerful picture Ron - just saw the exact same point elsewhere on social media. There's always something else when you think it can't get any worse...
