Dr. Rempell asks "How many scans does it take to master POCUS for pediatric skin & soft tissue infections?" in this latest publication.

This study of 3,400+ ultrasounds shows accuracy improves with experience—~29 scans to reach 90% accuracy and ~80 for 95%.

🔴 <28°C + circulation → Active internal rewarming
➡️ Pleural / gastric / bladder lavage

🔴 <28°C + arrest → ECMO if available

📈 If rewarming <1°C/hr → intensify care
🧠 Treat causes: hypoglycemia, sepsis, toxins

🟢 Mild (32–35°C):
✔️ Dry, remove wet clothes
✔️ Forced-air warming
✔️ Warm IV fluids / oral if stable

🟡 Moderate (28–32°C):
✔️ Forced air + warm O₂
✔️ Warm IV bolus
⚠️ Watch for afterdrop & shock
Monitor continuously. Always support ABCs.

Rectal and esophageal probes both have their place. Consider the clinical scenario.

🔹 Rectal: widely available, easy to place—but lags during rewarming
🔹 Esophageal: best real-time core temp (intubated pts), reflects cardiac temp

In critical cases → consider 2 central sites for accuracy.

Integrating Social Care Into a Specialized Medical Home for Sex-trafficked Youth | PolicyLab After a series of meetings between medical personnel and community stakeholders, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia successfully launched the Adolescent Protection Collaborative in July 2021. This novel clinic created a specialized medical home for sex-trafficked youth. The clinic was staffed by a core team of child abuse pediatrics and adolescent medicine physicians and a social worker who provided coordinated evaluations and same-day services, followed by ongoing long-term care.
