We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the courage it fears, not the appeasement it feeds on.

Daaaaaang.

Weird thing where people say β€œno one could have predicted it” when really what they mean is their political commitments and orientation were such that they ignored everyone who was predicting it

Sorry but β€œno one could haveβ€œ and you having your head stuck up your ass are two different situations

Mixed Income, Net Zero, and Fish Friendly: Innovation at The Southard A community land trust turned a difficult site in suburban Seattle into a sustainable, diverse, mixed-ownership-form development.

Confession time: when we run a profile of a group that is doing several totally different interesting things at once, it's SO hard to write a headline. So we didn't get the "including group homes proactively in a subdivision part" in. But now you know. shelterforce.org/2025/09/17/m...

I'm so happy to be able to share all these positive stories about community ownership with you all. It's been a comfort to work on during these tough times.

Important to remember that everyone involved in renaming the DoD to the Department of War is afraid to take the subway.

THERE ARE NO SHELTERS IN DC FOR PEOPLE TO GO TO. 900 ppl sleep outside each night. There are 40 open shelter beds. Ppl will be arrested for being unable to afford rent.

Every reporter needs to ask Trump and his cronies where he wants people to go.

Maybe his new ballroom?

How getting a nosocomial infection, that could have been prevented, equates to "living one's life" is beyond me.

More ambulances leaving Alligator Alcatraz. One at 10:30 am today and the other at 6:30 pm. Another at 11:57 pm last night, 6:10 pm on July 31st. Florida Department of Emergency Management, which operates the site, refuses to confirm hospitalizations but they are happening.

I also feel like Google Maps has gotten notably worse very recently also. Suspect more LLM enshittification and lack of human oversight is behind both.

Poem: Hospitality New Hampshire poet Matthew Richards reflects on the difficulty of living out what one professes to believe.

I'm not a Christian, but I do admire those few who take the compassion and justice messages of that faith seriously, even when it's not easy. I knew on first listen I wanted to share this poem (and it was worth the work it took to track the poet down for permission). shelterforce.org/2025/07/16/p...

Housing Communicators: Don't Water Down Your Values to Appeal to Opponents While many organizations try to adapt their messaging to reach a wider audienceβ€”which can be doneβ€”the research can help avoid some pitfalls along the way.

Alligator Alcatraz = internment camp.

Again, this is truly not about my opinions about LIHTC itself (which are critical but not as bad as you seem to think). I would say the same no matter what the good provisions were whose effects would be canceled out by the terrible parts of this bill.

And all I can do is tell you that how they "really" think doesn't actually matter if they don't stand up/speak out for what is right in a moment like this. This actually has zero to do with LIHTC, it has to do with the rest of the bill; that's the entire point.

It’s fucked up the @nytimes.com is okay with using anonymous race science accounts to smear Zohran with hacked bullshit, but isn’t okay with Jamelle Bouie criticizing them for it.

That’s, like, four different levels of racist simultaneously.

Before signing off for the 4th of July, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate with the affordable housing community on the successful inclusion of the LIHTC in the budget reconciliation bill. Maybe this isn't a perfect bill, but it is a remarkable achievement and a landmark moment for the affordable housing and community development community. It is estimated that the LIHTC provisions in the bill will create more than 1.22 million additional affordable housing units, transforming countless lives for the better.
Shout out to the Lincoln Avenue Communities team for our collective advocacy, including conducting more than 200 Congressional meetings over the last 18 months, and to the MANY industry advocates, who spend time in Washington and in their homes districts in countless groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, site tours, fly-ins, and town-halls telling the transformative story of affordable housing.

This, as an example, does not strike me as someone who has an understanding of the consequences of this bill. If he does and he’s still celebrating like this, that says something very disturbing.

That's actually the FY 2026 budget proposal, not this bill. But yes, if any of that goes through, especially the 43% cut to and block granting of rental assistance, it will only make things immeasurably worse.

Trump's Big Ugly Bill Is a Loss for Housing The tax bill includes big increases in housing funding. But its other provisions are so harmful that the affordable housing field should not be celebrating.

Any housers who celebrate this bill are showing that they only care about their piece of the LIHTC industrial complex and not the people they purport to serve. My latest editorial for @shelterforce.bsky.social.

Trump’s Big Ugly Bill has passed the Senate. We can still defeat it in the House. By Sarah Dohl, Indivisible Chief Campaigns Officer

Trump’s Tax Scam now heads back to the House, where Republicans can only afford to lose 3 votes. The bill barely squeaked by with a single-vote margin the first time, and it’s only gotten more divisive since.

Anyone who tells you this is a done deal doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

hey I am posting this because I didn't know it, and so others might not either: but the BBB has NOT PASSED YET-- it's passed the senate & now it must pass the house.

It's time to call reps RIGHT NOW. Johnson is going to push the vote ASAP before backlash can form so the calls need to start NOW.
