Again, this is truly not about my opinions about LIHTC itself (which are critical but not as bad as you seem to think). I would say the same no matter what the good provisions were whose effects would be canceled out by the terrible parts of this bill.

And all I can do is tell you that how they "really" think doesn't actually matter if they don't stand up/speak out for what is right in a moment like this. This actually has zero to do with LIHTC, it has to do with the rest of the bill; that's the entire point.

Thom Amdur • Before signing off for the 4th of July, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate with the affordable housing community on the successful inclusion of the LIHTC in the budget reconciliation bill. Maybe this isn't a perfect bill, but it is a remarkable achievement and a landmark moment for the affordable housing and community development community. It is estimated that the LIHTC provisions in the bill will create more than 1.22 million additional affordable housing units, transforming countless lives for the better. Shout out to the Lincoln Avenue Communities team for our collective advocacy, including conducting more than 200 Congressional meetings over the last 18 months, and to the MANY industry advocates, who spend time in Washington and in their homes districts in countless groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, site tours, fly-ins, and town-halls telling the transformative story of affordable housing.

This, as an example, does not strike me as someone who has an understanding of the consequences of this bill. If he does and he’s still celebrating like this, that says something very disturbing.

That's actually the FY 2026 budget proposal, not this bill. But yes, if any of that goes through, especially the 43% cut to and block granting of rental assistance, it will only make things immeasurably worse.
