U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer told #SCOTUS that the Trump administration would no longer try to withhold #SNAP benefits from the 42 million Americans who depend on the program to put food on their families’ tables. To be clear, the Trump administration should have never stopped funding SNAP.

I’ll continue fighting to protect coverage, strengthen our health care workforce, and ensure every family can get the care they deserve.

On #RuralHealthDay, we recognize the vital role rural providers play in keeping our communities healthy. Everyone deserves access to quality health care—no matter where they live. That’s why I will always stand against cuts to #Medicaid that would devastate rural hospitals in states like #Louisiana.

Jim Bernhard was a legend of Louisiana. The headlines called him an icon, a titan, a giant of a man. Those who knew him understood why: he was a builder, a problem solver, and at his core, a man of deep faith. I was proud to honor his memory today on the House Floor.

NTIA must get this funding out the door, because saying it’s available and actually releasing it are two very different things. Louisiana is ready to put shovels in the ground and finally close the digital divide.

In #EnergyCommerce, I supported Rep. Doris Matsui’s amendment to block the American Broadband Deployment Act until the NTIA releases all $42 billion in BEAD funding to the states.

While the state’s new plan for infrastructure funds has finally been approved (again), hundreds of millions of dollars for rural telehealth and workforce development in Louisiana are still in limbo, waiting for approval.

I was proud to stand with survivors as my counterparts in the Senate passed the bill unanimously.

I voted to release the Epstein files because the American people deserve to know the full truth about the Epstein criminal network and how this convicted sex offender was able to operate for decades. Today’s vote is a victory for transparency, accountability, and—most importantly—survivors.

But beyond all of that, Don Hubbard has been a mentor to me and to so many others. His guidance, his wisdom, and his unwavering commitment to our community have shaped generations of leaders.

A true legend of New Orleans — and a man whose impact will endure decades and decades to come!

He is also the owner of the historic Hubbard Mansion on St. Charles Avenue, the only Black-owned bed and breakfast on that iconic corridor.

Don C. Hubbard is a towering New Orleans civil rights leader whose work helped desegregate our city and open doors that had long been closed. From CORE activism in the 1960s to decades of community leadership, he pushed New Orleans toward justice with courage and conviction.

While Republicans took a 43-day vacation, I stayed with #HouseDems working for you in both D.C. & #LA02. I spoke with constituents about the shutdown, the importance of #ACA tax credits & #SNAP benefits, fought for voting rights as #SCOTUS heard arguments in Louisiana v. Callais, & much more.

Louisiana has lost a trailblazer. His family has lost a patriarch. And many of us have lost a friend.

May his memory be a blessing and his legacy a reminder of what bold vision and unwavering dedication can accomplish.

My heart goes out to James, his siblings, and the entire Bernhard family.

On behalf of my entire congressional staff, our family, and friends, we send our most sincere condolences during this difficult time.

This loss is deeply personal as well. Jim is the father of James “Tres” Bernhard III, one of my most valued and trusted advisors on my congressional staff. I have seen firsthand the strength, character, and dedication that Jim instilled in his family.

Jim was also a committed civic leader, a proud Democrat, and a man who invested in the people and communities of south Louisiana. His leadership extended far beyond boardrooms. He believed in service, in lifting others, and in giving back to the state he loved.

From the Shaw Group to Bernhard Capital Partners, his work transformed lives, created thousands of jobs, and reshaped the economic landscape of Louisiana. His impact will be felt for generations.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Jim Bernhard, a giant of Louisiana industry and a powerful force for progress in our state. Jim was more than a business leader. He was a visionary who built opportunity where others saw obstacles.

I was proud to join Dillard University for the ribbon cutting of their new off-campus residence hall. This beautiful new facility will house more than 200 students and represents another step in Gentilly’s continued renewal since Hurricane Katrina.

Happy #NativeAmericanHeritage Month! In November, and all year long, we honor the rich heritage, traditions, & contributions of Indigenous peoples. We recognize and celebrate #Louisiana’s tribal nations, past and present, & the vital role they play in shaping our state’s history, culture, & future.

Tonight, I voted NO on the disastrous Republican budget because it abandons the very people we were sent here to serve—working families, seniors, and children who depend on affordable health care.

Twelve days into open enrollment, millions of Americans are already feeling the pain of higher premiums, deductibles, and copays. Yet the Senate-negotiated package does nothing to solve the Republican health care crisis. Families deserve real relief, not political games.
