Going back to Under Mi Sleng Teng, it was also played during the legendary show that featured The Fall live at Clitheroe Castle, June 1985. The records played in that show (by someone else back at Radio Lancs, following Steve’s detailed notes) were a mixed bag, prob to represent the range played.
Incidentally, I don’t see an appearance on the running order of Barrington Levy’s Under Mi Sensi, the inspiration, but OtW only started in Aug 84 so maybe it missed that boat. Although his “Here I Come”, also from 84, was played Feb 85.
I don’t see any other Sleng Teng version from around the time, but for sure the riddim would be heard again and again in later years as it occasionally got revived, and in 2015 the OtW blog site posted this otwradio.blogspot.com/2015/07/slen...
The last entry on the running order for the 10th Mar show vaguely hints at “Wayne Smith/Jammy/Hi-Times - Under Me Sleng Teng (dubs!)”
First appearance of Wayne Smith Under Mi Sleng Teng was on OTW 10th Feb 85. No label stated, probably Greensleeves.
Smith’s previous, Come Along, was played several times from the previous November.
