Two panel cartoon. How it started: masked man beating Police Officer at the Capitol. How itβs going: identical masked man with ICE badge beating Statue of Liberty.
Remove ICE and CBP funding until real changes are made.
With apologies, I canβt find the artist to credit.
Mamdani: "I speak of Renee Good, whose final words to the man who murdered her were, 'I'm not mad at you.' I speak of Alex Pretti who died as he lived, caring for the stranger. ICE shot him bc he did something they could never fathom ... let us offer a new path: one of defiance through compassion."

It is more that
1) The Lancet editor insists it was the right thing to do, and would publish it again
2) The Lancet editorial board has a weird ideas about "free speech" and "controversial ideas" being "canceled"
3) Widely recognized as a compliant path for industry to get papers out quickly

Is anyone here an expert on #rstats ellmer structured data?
It works when I define the JSON schema of an object A containing an array of object B, but not when I read object B from JSON schema and use type_object and type_array to set up object A.

20.01.2026 00:54 β π 19 π 9 π¬ 0 π 0Having a reasonable (not overpowering) Bayesian prior from adult studies would actually make the pediatric studies small enough and affordable enough to actually get done. Rather than the complete absence of data in pediatrics that we have now.
19.01.2026 22:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But what we do now (not great) is to do the adult study, decide the pediatric market is too small to do a study at all in kids, and then have pediatricians spending their days appealing to insurance to get a drug covered that has never been studied (in a RCT) in kids.
19.01.2026 22:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The adult prior can dominate (probably too much). It would be reasonable (the devil is in the details) for the FDA to limit priors to the equivalent of 100 adults (pick your favorite number) so as not to overpower actual data in children.
19.01.2026 22:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0(1) at least adults are the same species as human children, so we are pretty confident (2) Decades of experience have shown that drugs that work in adults also work in children. But there is an issue when 1700 adults were studied, and the difference between drug and placebo is large.
19.01.2026 22:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How sad is this? The CDC closed its FOIA office, so this story could only be published because a Danish journalist provided Rolling Stone with the documents, after obtaining them through a freedom of information request to the University of Southern Denmark

Agreed. I think that there is a niche for the "feeder league" academic model - as in world soccer/English football, the revenue/salaries in the Dutch league are lower, so they find talented young players, put them in positions of responsibility, and know that some will leave for the Prem in England.
17.01.2026 14:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Must they though?
Some will definitely train up at OUP and then leave for more $$ elsewhere. Others (a minority) will value the position for other reasons, if you treat them well.
