this conversation has left me reflecting on the importance of incorporating art, nature, lived experience, and emotion into our philosophical thinking. without it, we run the risk of thinking ourselves out of the complexity of our own humanity.
so . . . go on a walk or check out some art today.

Pretty disgusting and racist email asking to be an editor for the channel. Not a fan of how common this discourse is becoming.
This study found that intelligence (specifically crystallized intelligence) is associated with values of benevolence, self-direction and universalism and is negatively associated with values of tradition, security and conformity

Id recommend checking out the citations. There’s quite a few studies (for example on stress pathology and social anxiety) being transmitted.
There are several common themes linked to suicidality in incels, including appearance concerns, isolation, frustration and self-loathing

Jordan Peterson has regularly attacked post-modernism as a vessel for nihilism. However, this over-simplification ignores postmodernism's emphasis on empathy, free speech and the same anti-ideological skepticism that Peterson likewise endorses.

I think we have a bit of a deontology vs consequentialist back and forth. I also don’t like the limited characters for an exchange like this. I also need to have dinner but I appreciate your thoughts. You’re making me use my noodle
If your ethical code considers the loss of life as inherently bad then yes
I suppose my stance is more so that eating meat is so ingrained in being human that it’s a more practical position to make access and consumption more difficult rather than outright ban/preach the killing of animals as inherently wrong. I also don’t think the act on its own is inherently wrong
Since you’re discussing eating for pleasure then yes I agree. But some would argue pleasure and survival are similar (a tolerable life “man does not live in bread alone” would be a relevant quote here lol)
I would like to ask if you feel like killing a sentient organism is ever justified
I don’t think I’m in a position to say what we shouldn’t or shouldn’t do if we endorse some moral relativism here. Sorry if I’m coming across a little anthrocentric
Fish, mollusk, fish, plant. And then we can ask if any of us actually have autonomy (ie free will) or if we’re all biologically driven by our desires and simply experiencing the clashing of subjectivities
Im not saying its morally ok. Im saying there’s no ground to base an objective morality on killing animals for meat. I personally feel that mass meat consumption is wrong but that’s not some universal Truth
Well the first part would be a difficult system to build an ethics off of. The desire of one subject (animal wanting to survive) vs the desire of another (us being hungry). Who takes precedent? Depends on who you are.
Yes vegan food is better for the environment when compared to mass meat farming
I would fully agree that culture is one of the main factors in explaining morality. Outside of “culture” (if we could imagine an ethical system like that) then eating a dog would be no different from eating another animal.
That would depend on which animals are considered appropriate to eat in ones culture. And the killing of animals by other animals and the consumption of meat is a naturally occurring phenomenon.
Environmentally but I do think the mass suffering/cruelty on such a massive scale paired with our relative blindness to the process of killing itself seems disrespectful to the animal
Do women that engage in casual sex have lower self-esteem? This study found no evidence between scores of sociosexuality and global self esteem.

Oof hard to answer in such limited characters. While I don’t think the consumption of eat is unethical I do think the ease of access for meat and factory farming has had terrible consequences
