Did everyone but me know about this? If you can't make it to/afford In-Edit, apparently lots of the music docos come out on this afterwards, and there's tons of good art and photography docos (plus some great films). All free.

London. Apparently the flight is massively overbooked but he's assuming they'll sit three to a seat and it'll be fine.

My friend is about to get on a flight from Barcelona with a troupe of castellers.

Sorted. Turned out to be a case of going to the Comisaría on a different day and getting a different funcionario. Cómo no.

Managed to get another cita on Tuesday at different comisaría in hope that not all funcionarios hold the same view. Will let you know.

Screenshot: Statement by the Chairman and CEO of Aena, Maurici Lucena, on the announcement by Ryanair
It would be hard to find in contemporary business history another case such as Ryanair where the dissonance between a company’s operational excellence and the dishonesty of its communications policy is so striking.
Ryanair's impertinence and uninhibited public demands on democratic governments in countries where it operates its flights with the aim of obtaining economic advantages, shed light upon two deep-rooted and unedifying characteristics of this airline company. The first is that Ryanair has a disturbingly plutocratic idea of the political system, i.e. it seeks to intimidate public opinion by slashing its flights, calls for the resignation of ministers from half of Europe and the president of the European Commission, mocks democratically elected politicians, and calls for laws to be changed in its favour because it believes that government decision-making should bend to the interests of the most economically powerful companies such as Ryanair, instead of protecting the "general interest". The second characteristic is Ryanair's communications and institutional relations policy, which is in permanent and deliberate conflict with objective facts and truthfulness. Here are a few examples:
It sounds like Spanish national airport operator AENA is very much over Ryanair and MOL.
Haven’t seen something this… forthright in quite some time, and goodness me, forthright it is.

I don't know where you are but in BCN at least they release the appts for the following week at 3pm on Thurs. It's like trying to get Glastonbury tickets, you just keep smashing the button.

(but yes you can definitely renew it before it expires and I HIGHLY suggest that you do…)

I couldn't get an appt for T for months, finally got one in Terrassa, where they turned her away because her card expired the day before. Said she needed the green card from the Oficina de Extranjería, which is appt only -- but you can't get the appt if you don't have a valid TIE. Spectacular work.

They release the citas at 3pm every Thurs (in BCN at least), and you have to sit there hammering the refresh button, while the site collapses under the weight of 10 squillion people doing the same thing.

Took months to get a cita and there were none in BCN so had to go to Terrassa today. Hour on the train, stack of documentation, and then 'oh sorry your TIE ran out yesterday so is no longer valid'. It RAN OUT YESTERDAY BECAUSE IT'S TAKEN SIX MONTHS TO GET A FRIGGING APPT.

Entre Dos Aguas by Paco de Lucía. The name of the song, 'Between Two Waters' refers to his native city of Algeciras, which sits where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet.

Travel PSA: Ryanair is increasing its underseat bag allowance by 5cm to 40x30x25. If you travel as light as I do this is thrilling news.

Where are all the tourists, though? There’s like four French people. It’s almost as though no one reads my guidebooks. Well, good - enjoy Lloret de Mar 🍺

Spain denies reports UK tourists face new £98 rule at airports
Holiday hotspot has denied "hoax" claims UK tourists are being asked to prove they have a certain amount of money to enter the country.
Regular readers* will know of my ongoing fascination with Birmingham Live’s hysteria over all things Spain-related. Lifetime achievement unlocked today as they quote me rubbishing one of their fave topics. (I do not remember saying this or ever being asked about it but anyway)

Old-person rant but omfg yes. An exhausting amount of every press trip is very young people saying 'AMAZING' to really very ordinary things they are too inexperienced to have come across or that are very silly but designed to look cutting edge and clever <oldpersonrantends> nymag.com/intelligence...
