I came across one of these when visiting a Mexican village.It's a traditional Mayan Pib - a method of cooking I'm writing about for some learning resources.Underground ovens traverse many cultures, but I've never created one myself.
Has anyone done this? I'd love to know.

Just started developing a new set of 5 block lessons around the Archaeology of food for the online learning site I work for.
The first is the archaeology of cooking &baking.Most of the objects here from my collection date to the late 1700s,1800s.So,I have to work back quite a long way!

For thousands of years corn has been the most valued crop in Mexico. It would have been consumed in various ways in the ancient coastal city of Tulum(real name,Zama). Here I am exploring the ruins while enjoying some esquites in the modern town, built up around the old site. #Archaeology

Made the most decadent strawberry ice cream yesterday from a great recipe by Felicity Cloake, inspired by Agnes Marshall. Doesn't last long in the dish, & what a dish this is from my collection - A 1930s 'Jade Ware' stunner. Complete with 1940s 'Nutbrown' ice cream scoop.
