Poulnabrone β’ The Burren
Situated in the heart of the Burren, Poulnabrone is one of Ireland's earliest dated megalithic tombs.
During excavations, the co-mingled remains of at least 36 individuals were recovered from the tomb chamber, largely dating from c.3800β3200 BC.

I saw someone famous (Arabella Weir? Maybe?) once saying she only butters one side for lunchbox sarnies. And she meant 'only one interior side'. I felt sorry for her kids. #butterisbetter (NB I know butter is not a thing in your house. However 'spread' should still be spread on both interior sides.)
16.11.2025 18:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's a little fella made from concrete. He's sitting on a bench and has three very damaged dogs (?) with him. Whoever painted this ensemble only had access to red paint and white paint. He has patched trousers and a beard. His coat is pink, his boots and hat and trousers and cheeks are red. The biggest dog has red eyebrows, all three dogs have red paws. It's a very grey damp day.
Sorting through some old photos I found this, which I am always as startled to see as I was when we actually saw it.
(On the way to the Dursey Island cable car in Co Cork. I don't know if it's still there. Let's hope not.)
Every time Academia recommend the @jimleary.bsky.social paper about the Marlborough Mound it makes me laugh. This is because a) I read it like eight years ago, the first time they recommended it b) they recommend it approx. five times a month. Are they in the pay of Big (artificial) Mound or what.

This is a five-stone circle (the stones are not large, maybe knee to waist height) with a stone row adjacent, the large stone in the photo (about 2.5m) is part of the row. The views are stunning, across to Killmakilloge Harbour and Knockatee mountain. There's another circle about 70m away, and the mediæval road from Kenmare to Castletownberehaven can be seen to the north.

It's quite a climb up here, through the dark damp woods, but well worth it.

16.11.2025 13:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think maybe people eat more (and stronger) dark chocolate now, which is more dangerous for them? (Having said that, our dog used to love to eat the chocolate off the discarded Turkish Delight when my mum got a box of Black Magic for Christmas so who knows.)

Does he want a film camera, or a digital one? I have a Canon dslr, itβs an EOS 1300D, itβs quite old so you can get secondhand ones quite cheaply. I also have a little Sony point and shoot - a Cybershot - which is pretty good. (Mind you, my phone is also old so the camera is only βreasonably goodβ.)
15.11.2025 19:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ooh it was exciting when I went to secondary school and met people from Oakley. Some of them lived in detached houses, such glamour. π
(Potter's Walk was part of the original new town centre development, Smiths moved from there to the 'even newer bit' in the 80s.)
All sixteen Doctors from Doctor Who in a flat graphic style against plain coloured backgrounds in a grid. Their numbers are written below them. Oh, and they have no faces or hands, it's just their costumes! Nearly forgot to mention that!
OK. All done. Pedants? I'm not interested, this is MY Doctors.
If you are interested in an A2 print I've decided to knock the price down so that it's Β£60 plus postage (assuming I get enough interest to make it worth my while)
Let me know here or in DMs if you are interested. Probably print 10.
This is just wonderful. Real village newsletter vibes.

I just did a bit more research, they were called Gorge Cafes I think - the one in Reading is in fact still there. Here's a pic from Trip Advisor showing the fake cave ceiling!

15.11.2025 13:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0OMG are you from Basingstoke?? You'll remember 'the dark bit where the pens lived' in Smiths when it was on Potters Walk then, maybe.
(Do you remember when Winchester had one of those weird 'cavern' restaurants with the fake cave walls, which I thought was what hell would look like?)
I had to take out all my piercings and destroy a bra for mine (it was a brain one).
15.11.2025 12:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Aha! I was sure they had some elements of uniform with a pattern made from the logo, but couldn't quite picture it.
