The text reads: Erwin steps forward and places two fingers against Zeke’s neck, right over his carotid artery. “His heart rate’s increasing,” he remarks. “I think he likes you, Levi.” Anyone with a pulse would like Levi, he thinks. He meets Erwin’s gaze and belatedly realizes that this is the first time he’s made eye contact with him since he entered the room. Zeke swallows. His look is all ice. A blatant how dare you? As if he wasn’t the one who put up an ad on Craigslist for “young men seeking interesting experiences.” Levi stands next to Erwin, giving him the side eye. Funny — Zeke hadn’t seen him move. “You know,” he says slowly, looking his partner up and down, “he is rather charming, actually.” Erwin does not seem charmed. He smiles coldly. “Is he now?” Charming. It goes against all evidence, makes zero sense, but he’ll take the compliment, even if it’s a throwaway comment clearly aimed at Erwin’s jealousy instead of Zeke’s ego. “Thanks,” Zeke says dumbly, and then Levi sits on his lap.
