There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Watching the news out of the USA, I keep asking myself "what's the red line?"

Or is there no red line?

The phrase "high expectations" has come to be a point of sadness.

It is meant to refer to the teachers' belief that a student can always learn and grow to a high standard, and then support that growth.

It has come to mean teachers making exacting demands of students and blaming them for failure.

How was everyone's first SDD?

Fun update: hospital visit had to be postponed due to the single worst case of COVID I've had in the nearly-5 year since this all began.

Next available date is mid March 🤦‍♂️

If you were organising a party to celebrate something that involved a large group of people, and one subset of that group said the date you had chosen didn't work for them, would you change the date, or rail against those people, telling them they don't really deserve a party anyway?

People sometimes seem incredulous when I say I studied educational psychology. It's a weird response.

I tell such people that it's the one of a shrinking number of fields in which it's still generally acceptable to experiment on children, and the closest I could get to being a mad scientist.

On this date in 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by the imperial forces of Japan. The loss of life and destruction was horrific, and it pulled the U.S. into the war.

Seems I conflated the defeat of the misinformation bill with the social media ban.

Let's see which paymasters the LNP ultimately side with - Murdoch or Big Tech

Labor expended a huge amount of political capital and good will to force a bill that Murdoch wanted, and now have been handed a huge defeat - which means the next LNP govt will do it in an even worse way

So the social media ban was defeated but for the worst of all possible reasons.

Be interesting to see if Bluesky can make it work. Twitter was never able to be profitable the way they wanted, which is why they were willing to sell to Musk in the first place.

I haven't seen an ad on here yet.

Maybe I'm thinking of a different thing. I thought enshitification was the term to describe a platform sacrificing the quality of its product and user experience in pursuit of greater profits.

But what's it's plan for monetisation? That's the hinge upon which enshitification swings.

Thankfully we've gotten our kids into Queen and a couple of musicals.

We use my YouTube music account to play music in the car with the kids. So it tells me I had a couple of songs on repeat for months at a time 🤣
