this washington map is disgusting (we should absolutely do it anyway)

hard to see our Democrat-in-name-only governor do anything but obstruct such a bold maneuver, sadly

One party has a serious voter enthusiasm problem and it ain’t the Dems!

Sorry to spam your mentions, but House Republicans themselves see this huge fundraising advantage and are still retiring in droves. They can tell how the wind is blowing.

This feels like the NYT flailing to find a way to throw cold water on ascendant Dems’ hopes.

Also will Trump magnanimously share any large share of that $300 million he’s sitting on (and which has been reported to be just sitting there, not being distributed to anxious candidates who wonder what the hold up is)? That doesn’t sound like any Trump I know.

It’s a problem, but Democrats have been winning special elections even when being outspent x3-x6. Money only takes you so far.

Thankfully you don’t need the human spark to replace all the bullet points in a list with + signs so you can import it into Typst.

I have always found trying to get it to generate interesting ideas to be a futile effort. It’s always uninspired averaged slop for whatever topic I’m discussing. Really its weakest area. I don’t think it’s overwrought to say the machine lacks the human spark.

Thankfully I am not a programmer so I don’t worry about this too much. Sure I can do some basic manipulation with pandas in python (and I wrote a basic implementation of Catan in C# yeaaaars ago) but I don’t have the drive to learn to code proper, so it isn’t replacing any existing skill for me.

Menial tasks (clean up this badly formatted list), natural language searching (where might I find dataset X), and basic non-critical coding (write a slapdash plugin to do X) are essentially all I’ll use it for.

Ah I should have just looked at the map, thanks. Something about the render of the long building immediately made me think of the Amazon go building.

Yeah I was afraid that was the answer. I too live in spreadsheets but I don’t crave the work of migrating all my email. I also feel like ProtonMail is more likely to disappear in a puff of smoke than Gmail is, and just losing your email address sounds catastrophic. I’ll consider it tho, thanks!

Is that the old Amazon Go building? Glad to see it’s being used for anything else.

It’s cut off by the label but the census data says 30% of Seattle households are in that $200k+ category. Which isn’t surprising if both spouses each make $100k or more.

Chart comparing income distribution between NYC and Seattle

Chart comparing income distribution between NYC and Seattle

I grabbed the ACS 5-year estimates from 2024 by income bracket for Seattle and NYC and yeah it does look like Seattle is more skewed to the upper income brackets (I’m sure NYC has more meagwealthy but the highest category is $200k+)

To say that it cannot create custom plugins for QGIS to vastly improve my workflow is a lie. And you can feed it a page of copied tech with bad line breaks and it will fix it up perfectly. I still would not trust it for anything non-coding related, especially text/email/image/idea generation.

Considering how toxic the broad concept of "sweeps" is, it feels like a major misstep to not be more clear about this, assuming that's actually the explanation here.

And that is why I am willing to extend more grace to her. Mamdani has the existing machine of the DSA behind him and a friendly relationship with Governor Hochul. Wilson is working from a greater power deficit. I will judge her based on her results in the years to come.

It’s not like Seattle has tons of empty land available for her to put people either. That’s kind of why we have this homeless crisis to begin with…
