Nice to see you tooo. I’ve been too busy to post.

I don’t know how people cook without it.

I don’t drink alcohol. I hate it and never have. I know a lot of people like that. Don’t assume someone is an alcoholic or pregnant just because they’re not drinking. I am sharing this not because I don’t want you to assume that about me but to protect those who are and don’t want to be outted.

An economy that relies on exponential growth in a world of finite resources is doomed to fail. Especially when so many of the resources it wants us to buy are harvested through incredibly toxic mining practices and slave labour

I 100% agree and would add that if you are hosting a holiday event and you do NOT have something festive, creative and delicious for your guests to drink without alcohol in it, you are actually an asshole

don't make them drink tap water while everyone else has bespoke cocktails!

This makes me physically ill.

It also makes me glad I’ve been able to keep my client, a man from Venezuela, from being sent out of the country.

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

People hate turkey because grandma was terrified of E. coli and didn’t buy a meat thermometer.

I bought a MEATER digital thermometer that pings me when it’s done and I swear I’d never go back.

This is typically an issue solved by a meat thermometer and taking it out 3 degrees below what’s safe and letting it rest for 30 mins since it continues to cook.

Infertility is the worst. But at no point should you be asking strangers for free… Xmas ornaments because you were infertile. They are not a need for pregnancy and they are not a need for an infant next year.

Using infertility to try to get random free things from strangers cheapens the experience

Someone on marketplace: Will you take less for your Xmas tree ornaments?

Me: Sure $5 off.

Them: Okay but you see I have been infertile for 6 years and I’m now pregnant and unemployed and I need them for a pink and blue tree.

Me: Did you just use the struggle with infertility for free… ornaments?

Someone is selling these on marketplace and I swear they are 100% doing so because someone finally told them they look like butt plugs.

Because if you are designing holiday items and you need someone who will say, “these are basically butt plugs” that person is me.

It is abhorrent that the President just threatened death upon members of Congress.

We must condemn all threats of political violence, especially when they come from someone who has incited a violent attack on the Capitol.

What’s more interesting is what an eras death of the novel essays pinpoint as killing the novel. Says a lot more about the culture than it does about literature.

The death of the novel has been consistently exaggerated. We like fiction for reasons that can’t be replaced with other things. I’m not worried.

AI might someday be able to do stale, boring genre fiction passably well. It can’t even do anything near that now.

I have a bit of an obsession with essays that proclaim the death of the novel. They’ve been written for different reasons for hundreds of years. Yet the novel still lives.

A lot of the fear that AI will replace jobs comes from falling for the hype about what AI is about to become that’s being put out there by people trying to get investors into AI.

It’s marketing, not reality.

AI will never replace novelists. If you think that, you don’t understand what novels actually are.

And you also don’t understand what AI is capable of.
