Just picturing everybody involved in this process stepping outside of the room and immediately looking like this

It was definitely crucial that the US had Tarik Skubal for three innings against Great Britain. The three biggest innings of the entire WBC.
I get Skubal not wanting to pitch again, but I think it looks kinda bad when you leave the team altogether in the middle of the tournament. More than anything, I question Mark DeRosa for taking a pitcher who you know is only going to pitch in one game.

It's an example of how the NBA can't get out of its own way right now. Tanking is a problem for the league because Adam Silver, who's so fixated on optics, is presenting it as a problem that needs radical solutions.
Winning three dunk contests when Kobe was only a one-time champion? You're basically spitting in Vanessa Bryant's face.
I'll be curious where the WNBA viewership is this year because I thought, even without a work stoppage, the league's ratings might start to level off a bit. You can't expect to see a spike in interest every single season. Maybe the buzz is still there.
The long tail of the Caitlin Clark Effect™
His wife said this for crying out loud

And Kobe "job's not finished" himself! He wasn't happy unless everybody was as miserable and singularly focused on winning a championship as him.
To me, it's a bigger critique of the NFL to argue this is just the good ol' boys network prevailing once again than saying the league is throwing DEI overboard to make our big wet boy happy
I see this less as Trump-related and more a larger reflection of the NFL's historic failures toward actually elevating minority coaches. People have been arguing for years about the Rooney Rule being ineffective.
Granted, I'm not an LA guy but this felt like one of the most absurd things I ever read when I first saw it
The WNBA never should've ditched the best-of-three format in the Finals. The negotiations would've ended by now.
Setting aside the ripple effects of his rape trial, Kobe Bryant's legacy as a basketball player is making others adopt his warped worldview through the "Mamba Mentality"
Adam Silver, how are you going to rectify this
Brainstorming a 3,000-word essay on why it's offensive that Robert Horry has two more championship rings than Kobe
There's no ethical way to score 81 points in a 48-minute basketball game. One guy inevitably has to really selfish and his teammates eventually get out of the way.
Having to manipulate stats and obfuscate and ignore reality to make Kobe look better than he was would be a fine tribute to him though that's true
Saying Bam Adebayo was "stat-chasing" and contrasting that with Kobe's performance is incredible. Kobe took 46 shots and accounted for two-thirds of his team's point output. He was clearly gunning for Wilt's record.
I'll go a step further. They shouldn't even have the NBA anymore without Kobe.
And it's especially true with the US men's basketball team, where the top stars hardly ever suit up outside of the Olympic
From the youth levels on up, athletes are incentivized to showcase their own skills and go their own way. There's no collective spirit connected to what something like Team USA represents. This happens so often with the American team in the Ryder Cup.
