Unsurprisingly to any who follow me, I care a lot about data, access to data, and ensuring that folks understand it. I particularly despise when people try to pull the wool over our eyes when clear data exists to show that it is nothing more than deceit.

Don't try to lie to me when I have the data

In Dublin specifically, 27% of tenancies are with landlords who have 100+ tenancies. 27%!

The one property landlords are only 21%. Don't give me this "mom and pop fleeing the market" guff. Mom and pop don't own hundreds of properties.

That's your "I inherited a house" or "I owned and then moved in with a partner" type scenario and the RTB's own data shows that that is *not* the majority of rental scenarios. The majority is landlords owning 3+ properties and often a great many more than that. LET THEM LEAVE.

From the same dataset, charitably, you could say that anyone owning up to 2 tenancies is a "mom and pop" landlord and that makes up..... just 37% of rentals right now.

If you wanted to be really strict about it, those with just one property are only 24.96% of rentals.

Source for the above is the RTB's dataset, btw, and figures are from Q2 this year. Q3 not yet published.

In Ireland, there are 122 landlords with 101+ tenancies. A further 130 with 50-101 tenancies. There is quite literally no need for anyone to own that much property.

In Ireland, more properties were bought this year by landlords than by people hoping to live in them. Mostly large landlords, not the sainted mom and pops of it all. People who already own tens or hundreds of properties bought even more of them. They're not fleeing the market, they're destroying it.

Everywhere you look, it's large investors owning sometimes hundreds of properties, and then writing op-eds in newspapers as if they are just a struggling couple, renting a granny flat and charging the bare minimum rent just to do good. It's literally a lie.

Here's someone examining it in NYC. It's large landlords. medium.com/justfixorg/e...

Spain? It's large landlords.

Australia? Wouldn't you know it, it's large landlords.

Oh and hey, guess what? Literally everywhere that anyone has investigated the idea of poor mom and pop landlords being pushed out of the market it has turned out to be a myth. Mom and pop landlords are never the majority of landlords, large companies and investors are. Everywhere. All the time.

24.11.2025 12:25 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 9    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I quite literally will never understand this take. I know that we always need *some* rental property available but the vast majority of people in Ireland want to own and we can't because of *drumroll please* landlords buying multiple properties to rent. Them leaving the market is what we want.

It was a burrito bowl, there was no saving it. Bits of rice and salsa all over the place, etc.

So now instead of eating I am cleaning up the floor and presses that are all covered in food.

So I am slightly cursed, apparently.

Friends I'm not saying that I'm cursed but our delivery driver drove kilometres in the wrong direction, so our food arrived stone cold, so I had to microwave it, but then because I had to microwave it, I dropped it on the floor while taking it out of the microwave.

Adobe digital editions is ass. It is possible to get a book that you've downloaded through it into something like Calibre with a little effort. I did this with a book I could only access in pdf form through Google books, but I wanted it on my reader and not my phone so needed to convert.

23.11.2025 12:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Assume you're familiar with Calibre for library management and file conversion?

"we need to teach kids critical thinking"

Babe the arts classes that you constantly devalue *are* the critical thinking classes. What do you think things like history and English class are forโ€ฝ

And they didn't even treat the bloody endometriosis, despite nearly killing her! Fuck sake. How does a trocar end up going in so deep it's nearly coming out the other side? That's gross incompetence.

Genuinely very upset reading it.

It is 2025 and this is brand new.

Just in case you're wondering why women are still big mad about everything all the time. It is 2025 and we are just now thinking "should we check if cars are safe for women"

Do you know what's funny? Even the different government departments couldn't align on a template for their gender pay gap reports. Even within the literal government, it's a total crapshoot as to where the figures will be!

Today is international men's day, and also my birthday, because the universe loves a joke.
