I’m sorry but it’s not summer in the Bay Area until @karlthefog.bsky.social says “Welcome to Fogust” ☁️

I am wearing a beautiful new pair of ankle boots (it’s chilly here in the Bay Area) that I bought online without trying them on. They are gorgeous but pretty tight and stiff, and there is no zipper just elastic insets. I am afraid I won’t be able to get them off at the end of the day helpppp 😂😳😭

Can I share a pet peeve? People have forgotten how to write dates. Don’t use ordinal numbers… it’s July 22, not July 22nd. You are not saying it out loud. Stop doing this!

Anywho, as I tell the young people in my life whom I love deeply, this is your time to create beautiful works of art, to throw the most fun parties you can for no money, and to fight like hell for a future worthy of you. This is NOT a time to retreat into yourself and to forgo the world.

The massive virality of the CEO Coldplay affair thingy just shows how desperate we all are to see bad people get what they deserve for once. I’m relieved to know that at least some people are still capable of feeling shame

Feeling a lot of literary FOMO as I see everyone posting pics from Tin House, Community of Writers, Kenyon and other conferences. Ah to be in the company of other writers, enjoying picnic weather, hearing amazing faculty and fellow readings… If this is you, enjoy every moment!!! 😎 pic from THSW 2023

Yoshi's co-founder Kaz Kajimura has died at age 82. He leaves behind an incredible legacy of music and community, not just in Oakland, but globally.

I wrote an in-depth feature for @sfgate.com on Kaz and his monumental impact, with thoughts from Bill Bruford.

I used to LOVE drugstores. I could spend 30-40 min just browsing the new makeup & skincare, and get the latest magazines. I’ve lost count of how many stores have closed in Oakland. At a Walgreen’s today I was shocked to see the *entire wall of makeup* locked up behind glass cabinets. End of an era 😢

A year ago I stood on this same street corner as my parents: Mott & Bayard St. in NYC Chinatown. Thinking of my parents & all immigrants today, and remembering my mom on the 11th anniversary of her passing. Given the shameful state of our country, the last thing I want to do is celebrate.

I’m sitting next to a woman in a cafe and she has earbuds in & her eyes are closed. She’s been sitting absolutely motionless, hands folded in her lap, for at least 20 minutes. I know she’s not asleep, just deeply concentrating on her music or audiobook or who knows what. Respect 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

10 years ago I wore this rainbow kitten dress to the SF Pride Parade. A couple nights ago I went to the SF Symphony for an homage to David Bowie & snapped this pic as I was crossing the street. A lot has changed, but the need to celebrate & love each other loudly has not. Happy Pride Weekend!! 🌈
